Here is the Johnny Key Classic format for August 29 at Ocean Speedway. Please note the change in the nightly format from recent years, which should make things more fair for all involved! Management listened following last year's running & the program has been tweaked for next weekend:

Johnny Key Classic Race Night Format for Saturday August 29 at Ocean Speedway

Drivers not “locked” into the Key race will hot lap and group qualify. They will then run Heat Races, B-Main Event (s) and a Last Chance Qualifier for the next 18 starting spots in the Key Main Event race. We will be starting 24 Cars in the Key Main Event. Heat Race format will be the 18+ cars not locked in, will run 3 heats (straight up) and we will take the top 4 finishers, or if more than 27+ cars check-in, we will run 4 Heat races (straight up) and take top 3 finishers to the Key Main Event. Those positions will start according to their time behind the pre-qualified cars.

Then we will have B-Main(s) (depending on # of cars, we may have 2 B-Mains) for the cars that didn’t make the Key Main Event out of the Heat races. If 2 B-Mains are ran, we will take the top 2 finishers, if only 1 B-main is ran we will take the top 4 finishers; only the winners (if 2 B-Mains are ran) or top 2 finishers will get their times back to start behind the pre-qualified cars.

Then we will take the rest of the non-qualified cars and run a Last Chance qualifier and will then take the top 2 finishers to the Key Main Event. We will have a 25th provisional starting spot for any previous Johnny Key Classic Main Event winner that does not qualify to make the Key Main Event thru previous attempts that night.

Drivers that have pre-qualified will be allowed an opportunity to hot lap during the night before the Key race. There will be a six (6) lap dash consisting of the drivers that have pre-qualified. The starting order of the dashes will be determined by pill draw. The finishing order of the dash will determine their starting spots for the Key. The Last Chance Qualifier cars will follow in the line-up as stated previously.

Johnny Key Race Laps

The Key race will consist of a total of fifty (50) laps. There will be two (2) twenty-five (25) lap segments. At the conclusion of the first segment the cars will be stopped on the front straight in front of the grandstands. There will be a 10 minute intermission in which cars can refuel, change tires, and make whatever adjustments the crews can do on the front straight before teams are signaled to leave the track and cars are pushed off. Cars will be lined up to resume the race in the order in which they finished the first segment.

Purse

Winner will get $6,000 with a guaranteed $300 to start the A-Main. The Fast Time and Hard Charger awards will be $500 each

Taco Bravo Pre Party

Ocean Speedway and Taco Bravo will be hosting a Johnny Key Pre-Party at the Taco Bravo location 1950 South Bascom Avenue, Campbell, CA from 5pm to 8:30pm on Friday August 28, 2015. All pre-qualified cars and other teams are welcome to come and display their race cars at the event. Help us sell 3055 Taco’s

To participating teams

Drivers’ meeting is at 3:45pm

Please work with us to make this a great event. We know everyone has their own opinion of how things should be done. Unfortunately we can never make everyone happy. So please keep that in mind. Minor adjustment may be made to this as deemed necessary by the track.
