DRIVER TO REALIZE LIFELONG DREAM SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

(Perris, CA, August 11, 2015)  Growing up in the city of Chino, Jeff Dyer used to go to Ascot Park on Saturday night to watch the original CRA Sprint Car Series.  Like most other youngsters sitting the stands at 190th and Vermont in Gardena, Dyer dreamed that one day he would race a 410 sprint car.  This Saturday, August 15th, the now 32-year-old will live his dream when the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars contest the annual “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night” at Perris Auto Speedway.

In preparation for his chance, Dyer, who resides in Fort Irwin, has honed his skills the past few years running in the front portion of the pack with the California Lightning Sprint Car Series.  Last year he led the championship standings most of the most of the season before eventually finishing third.  Thus far in 2015, Dyer has been locked into third in the CLS standings.  In addition to racing the 410 on Saturday, he will also be racing his familiar #4 Lightning Sprint.

“Running a 410 sprint car is the major leagues for me and has always been my ultimate goal,” he said on Monday evening.  “I never had any desire to run NASCAR, Indy Cars or any of that stuff.  Sprint Cars have always been my love and that is what I have always wanted to do.  I am not sure what the car count is going to be on Saturday.  Making the main would be awesome, but just finishing, getting some experience and getting in some laps is the ultimate goal for the first time out.”

As he said, Dyer’s overall goal is to run a 410 sprint car and this Saturday’s rookie run will be the first step in that direction.  He will be driving the yellow #39 car normally driven by Cal Smith.  Getting into that ride came about as he started helping Smith with the car several years ago before he went into the Army.  Last year, Smith drove one of Dyer’s backup cars in a couple of CLS races and Dyer asked Smith is he could drive his 410 a couple times this year and the veteran racer agreed.

In addition to getting a chance to race a 410 sprint car this Saturday, the 12-year Army EOD Platoon Sargent’s life has been changing and will continue to change in the next few months.  He married his wife Christina on May 6th and in five months, he hopes to get out of the Army as he has plans to go to the police academy.  Dyer has his non-racing sights set on becoming a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department or the California Highway Patrol.

With the academy lurking on the horizon, Dyer is not sure how that will affect his racing in 2016.

“I do not have any idea how my racing is going to go next year and I am playing it by ear right now,” he said.  “It all depends on the academy stuff.  If I do the CHP stuff, that is a seven month academy up in Sacramento and racing will be hit or miss.  If I do the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s, racing will probably be like it is now and I will still be close to home.  Either way, I probably will not be racing for points next year the way my life schedule is working out.”

Dyer got a taste of the 410 car when they took it to practice at Perris Auto Speedway last Wednesday night, but a suspected magneto problem after about four laps of wheel packing put the car back on the trailer.  Thus, Dyer has not yet driven the car at racing speeds and it will baptism by fire in the first hot lap session this Saturday.

The USAC/CRA portion of the show will include a lot of extra money over the normal purse and will be highlighted by a 4-car 4-lap $2,000.00 winner take all trophy dash courtesy of Junior Kurtz and Bill Simpson.  The fast qualifier at all USAC/CRA races receives $100.00 from the Woodland Auto Display, but this Saturday the quick timer will collect an extra $500.00 as well from the family of two-time CRA champion Billy Wilkerson.  Winners of Saturday’s USAC/CRA heat races will take home $250.00 if there are four heats and $300.00 if there are three.  The heat race money is courtesy of Mark Atchison and AMA Plastics.  In addition, nearly $4,000.00 will be added into the main event purse in lap money.

As well as the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, The PAS Senior & Young Gun Sprint Cars and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be on the quadruple header program.  Racing will start at 7:00 PM.

Adult reserved tickets are $25.00.  Seniors 65 and older get in for $20.00.  For active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 it is just $5.00.  Children 5 and under get in for free.

Camping is available for $25.00 per night for all PAS events.  The campground opens at noon the day before each event.  Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM for all PAS events as well.
