World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invades the Stockton Dirt Track for the first ever double-header weekend in the FVP Western Spring Shootout March 21 & 22

By Gary Thomas

Stockton, CA – February 3, 2015…The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is set to tackle the Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday & Sunday March 21 & 22 with a full weekend of excitements & fun on tap at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds.

The FVP Western Spring Shootout will be the third straight year that the Greatest Show on Dirt has competed at the track, but the first on back-to-back nights. Previous WOO winners at Stockton include Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson and most recently Australian Kerry Madsen, who came out on top during a near photo finish last year over eventual series champion Donny Schatz.

The thrilling main event saw Brownsburg, Indiana’s Joey Saldana jump out to the early lead, before Schatz was able to take command on lap-seven, until Saldana got him back on lap 14. Schatz would reclaim the top spot just a couple laps prior to the finish, only to have a hard charging Madsen nip him at the checkered flag in exciting fashion. Saldana; Clovis, CA’s Jason Meyers & Campbell, CA’s Bud Kaeding rounded out the top-five.

“That was actually really exciting because Donny and Joey were just battling and I’m thinking that  I’ve got a shot here,’” said Madsen, a native of St. Marys, N.S.W., Australia. “It was one of those races where I think it paid off to be behind the leader, because I found that line and just got patient with it. I’m just rattled that we won because I just did not expect it.”

Earlier in the night Saldana also re-set the all-time track record at the Stockton Dirt Track with a blistering lap of 12.869 seconds.

Despite losing the race in Stockton last season Schatz went on to have a career year, capturing 26 main event wins and claiming his sixth World of Outlaws title by a staggering 281-points. The driver of the Tony Stewart Racing No. 15 also took home his eighth victory at the prestigious Knoxville Nationals in August. When the series heads back to Stockton in March, Schatz will be looking for some redemption and guns for his first win at the 3/8 mile clay oval.

Two-night adult General Admission tickets for the March 21 & 22 FVP Western Spring Shootout weekend are available for a great value at just $59 & two-night Reserved Grandstand tickets cost only $69. Single-night tickets & box seats are also available. Children 10 & under are free in G.A. only. To purchase tickets log onto http://dirtcar.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=165 or contact the ticket hotline at (877) 395-8606.

Camping will also be available during the weekend with a number of great spots for RV’s and Campers on the fairgrounds. To reserve your spot contact 916-370-9417. We will do our best to accommodate everyone as well as we can.

Delta Speedway, also located on the Fairgrounds, will be running a special race on Friday March 20, making it a three-night happening on the property. There is also a post race party in the works for Saturday night following the races. During the day on Saturday & Sunday there will be a live band & car show behind the grandstand area, so make plans to arrive at the track early.

“The World of Outlaws are putting more of an emphasis on two-night events and we’re happy that the Stockton Dirt Track is part of the plan,” said promoter Tony Noceti. “We’re also happy that Delta Speedway is running a special show to open the weekend on Friday. Going to the races is so much more than just watching cars go around the track. It’s about friendships, camaraderie, enjoying a cold or hot beverage and having a good time. Our focus here is the fan experience and we are trying to do as much as possible to give the fans the most bang for their buck as we can.”

The Stockton Dirt Track is a lightning fast 3/8 mile clay oval and is located on the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, California. It is built inside a one-mile horse track and boasts one of the nicest dirt track facilities in the state. The physical address is 1658 S Airport Way, Stockton, CA 95206.  For information on the speedway visit www.stocktondirttrack.com  & info on the World of Outlaws can be viewed at www.woosprint.com

I have been looking into ca for a possible re location but racing is a big deal to us. I just can't figure out why there is really no weakly racing out there other than a couple tracks and they dont run the same cars every week. What's with these hand full of night schedules for the hole season and you guys have a lot longer season than we do and there is 100 time more racing here. I'm just confused as to what Gowe on out there? Some tracks run 410 some 360 some usac some local midgets some modifieds some, some some some..... And kinda crapy car counts in all but the sprints to an extent. seems like nobody is on the same page out there, if there was unity the car counts would go up, but also how about some tracks to race weekly? Anyway if I'm missing something and there is weekly racing that  you could easily run more than one night a week without a traveling series let me know. Thanks
