#73 Trey Marcham wins at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway.

TREY MARCHAM ADDS TULARE THUNDERBOWL TO WIN LIST
By Lance Jennings

TULARE, CA – JUNE 1, 2014... After winning his first Honda USAC Western Midget feature at Bakersfield, Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma stormed to victory at Tulare’s Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway. Using the outside line to gain momentum off the cushion, Marcham charged from ninth to grab the lead from Ronnie Gardner on lap 19 to earn his second consecutive victory. Fast qualifier Gardner, Nick Chivello, “The Wild Child” Chris Ennis, and Britton Bock followed Trey to the checkered flags.

Piloting the Keith Ford owned #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products TCR, Trey Marcham qualified thirteenth out of the season high eighteen racers in attendance and ran third in his heat race. Last season’s Rookie of the Year left Tulare with a 29-point advantage in the dirt series and ranks second in the overall standings. Heading to Santa Maria on July 5th, Marcham has one fast time award, one heat race victory, three top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led to his credit.

For the second race in a row, Norco’s Ronnie Gardner finished second to Marcham. Driving the Six8 Motorsports’ #68 Baldozier Racing / Esslinger Engineering Stewart, Gardner took command from Ricky Shelton on lap five and maintained the top spot until the nineteenth circuit. Earlier in the program, the defending champion earned his second fast time award of the season and placed fifth in his heat race. Ronnie has climbed to second in dirt points and third in the overall standings with three top-10 finishes and 12 feature laps led on the season.

Nick Chivello of Manteca claimed third after leading the second and third laps of the main event. Racing the family owned #27 Vic Hubbard’s Auto Parts / Red Top Electric Spike, Chivello was fourth quick in time trials and placed fourth in his heat race. To date, the 2012 Rookie of the Year is tied for thirteenth in the dirt standings and ranks seventh in the combined pavement and dirt points. Heading to the Madera pavement this Saturday with USAC and BCRA, Nic has two top-10 finishes in the campaign.

Bakersfield’s “The Wild Child” Chris Ennis earned his first “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a fourth place run from eighteenth. Piloting the family owned #86 Sidewaze Designs / Young’s Commercial Trucking Spike, Ennis broke a u-joint in hotlaps and his crew was able to make repairs in time for the main event. After a long day, Chris left Tulare ranked seventh in the dirt points and tenth in the overall standings.

Starting tenth in the main event, Britton Bock of Angwin missed several tangles to claim fifth at the Tulare County Fairgrounds. Driving the family owned #67 McNamara Electric / Orecart Napa Valley Spike, Bock qualified sixteenth overall and ran fifth in his heat race.

Galt’s Matt Streeter drove to victory in the night’s first 8-lap heat race. Racing his #14JR T&T Trucking / Simpson Race Products Spike, Streeter was seventh fast in time trials and scored sixth in the feature.

Scott Pierovich of Alamo won the second 8-lap heat race at Thunderbowl Raceway. Piloting Mike Sala’s #19 Sala Construction / Weldway Inc. Spike, Pierovich qualified tenth overall and placed fourteenth in the main event after an early exit. Ranked tenth in dirt points and eighth in the overall standings, Scott has one top-10 finish on the year. The veteran driver is expected to race in Saturday’s “Pombo/Sargent Classic” at Madera.
This Saturday, June 7th, the Honda USAC Western Midgets will tackle the pavement of Madera Speedway for the annual “Pombo/Sargent Classic.” Located on the Madera County Fairgrounds in Madera, California, the co-sanctioned BCRA Midget showcase will also feature the Super Modified vs. Wing Sprints, USAC HPD Midgets, Modifieds, Vintage Super Modifieds, NCMA Spec Sprints, and BCRA Vintage Cars.
