I haven't been able to locate a copy of his obituary yet but I'm just learned from a very reliable source that Charlie Hiner passed away last week. Charlie drove jalopies, modifieds, and rails in the 1950s and 1960s. It was while driving for Allan Carter that Charlie won the B feature at the first ever National Championship Jalopy Races which were held at Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City in 1957. He also qualified sixth fastest in a field of 84 cars for the 1962 National Championship Jalopy Races at Hutchinson while driving Pius Selenke's famous #43 rail. After retiring from driving, Charlie reported on area races for National Speed Sport News.

I took this photo of Charlie when I took the car over for him to see. He had not seen the car since the 60's when he won a lot of races in Western Ks, with this car. RIP Charlie
