I was reading some old threads on the Hamb and ran across this one. Did this super ever show up It has to be the 501 I would think.

"I also know the whereabouts of a super that Mario Fuentes raced in the Kansas/ Oklahoma super wars in he late 70's. That car was built by Ken McDaniel. He won the Western World Championship with that car in '78 on the 1/4 mile track at
Manzy."

My name is Wayne Johnson. I currently own (what was told to me to be) the "501" car.

I bought it from a gentleman from Ohio name Duke ??????. He was a well-known sprint

car driver in that area. He said that he got it from a college professor from somewhere in

Texas or New Mexico. What I have is a roller. It has a fairly tall cage and appears to be

straight and I can find no areas where it appears to have spliced or repaired. I have a copy

of a picture that I got from the "bar" under the grandstand @ the 81 Speedway in Wichita

that shows the only markings being the #501 vertically on the cockpit and train tracks and

a locomotive on the hood. The hood and a number of parts on the car are Nance items.

I can be contacted @ [email protected]

Thanks for showing the picture. This is a different one than I have. I was mistaken on who I bought the

car from. I bought it from Jimmy Blanton in Phoenix - he had bought it from Duke Cook. I has the

front one (1) foot broken off of the nose of the hood and it has a sprint tail on it now and none of the

"cab" sheet metal on it. I need a hood to replace the one on it and a "super style" fuel tank. I do have

quite a few parts for sprint cars for sale. I have a NOS Nance nose that is uncut, numerous in/out

boxes, front and rear hubs and spindles, and a few wide steel wheels.

Hello, I just registered a while ago after finding the post about Mario's old car. I do in fact know exactly where the old "Maquina 501" or "Engine 501" in translated terms is. I would love to buy the car, but the owner is not ready to sell yet. I am restoring another old sprint car / super that my uncle Willie Nunez raced in all over the southwest I'm the mid 70's which is what led me to the Fuentes car.
