CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT VICTORVILLE RACEWAY PARK THIS SATURDAY!
(Placentia, CA, September 14, 2011) After two weekends off, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series will make its final appearance of the 2011 season at Victorville Raceway Park this Saturday, September 17th. Spectator gates will open at 4:30 PM and the first race will be at 6:00. Joining the CLS on the semi banked 1/3 of a mile clay oval will be the Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Sport Compacts, All-Americans and Long Jump Competition. (for more information on Saturday's race, please visit the track web site at: http://www.victorville-auto-raceway.com/)
Wildomar's Tim Brown will be the driver to watch on Saturday after scoring his first ever CLS main event win at Santa Maria Speedway on August 27th. The 51-year-old carries a massive 171-point lead over defending series champion Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley heading into Saturday's event. With only three point paying races remaining on the schedule after this weekends High Desert race, Brown can have one hand on the series championship trophy with a good finish on Saturday. Thus far in 2011, he has started every main event and has only finished out of the top five two times.
In addition to Brown's win at the last race, five other drivers have posted wins in the first 12 races. Lomita's Bobby Michnowicz leads the CLS with four wins. Michnowicz teenage son Kevin is second with three wins. The only other driver with more than one win is Kramer who has two. Brothers Dan and Darren Hillberg have one win each.
The best battle in the point standing is going on from fifth through ninth. Anaheim veteran Dale Gamer is fifth, but is only one point ahead of Corona's Darren Hillberg. Dan Lancaster of Imperial Beach is 38-points behind Gamer. Corona rookie Stephon Limon is 36-points behind Lancaster with Buena Park's Paul Krueger 14-behind Limon.
