The recent video of Kyle, and his son Owen watching a slot car race reminded me of how much fun my dad and I had, as a kid.

Does anyone still have these or are they even still made? I'm not sure I'm allowed to post this question before I google it, according to some posters. It looks like the cars in the video are midgets?

My Dad and I scratch built 3 different slot car tracks back in the 80's. We also made and sold 1/24 & 1/32 scale sprint car bodies and wings. I still have around 200 painted 1/24 scale bodies. We had 8 different 1/24 style bodies and 3 different 1/32 bodies. We made our own chassis out of 1/16" & 3/64" brass rod. We Raced in Worthington, MN - Sioux Falls, SD and Slayton, MN. I will try post some pix of some of the stuff I left. Phil Markman

Actually, yes. I have an 11'x6' 1/32 scale oval set up in my house. Unbelievable what they have become. It's a Carrera name brand, and the awesome difference today is that they have gone digital. The base set is still two lanes, but each car is set up to the controller and not dependant on one lane. Incorporated into the set is two lane change sections that allows each car to change lanes with the click of a button on the controller. And....this is the best part.....six cars can be programmed to run at the same time. So passing by changing lanes is now controlled by each player. It gets pretty wild! Another thing is this, upto four cars can be set up as "ghost cars", which means those cars are programed to run a constant speed around the track completely on their own, and those cars will change lanes at random. There have been many times that I will set up two ghost cars and have three friends over and the four of us not only have to contend with racing each other, but also have to deal with the ghost cars. I'm tellin ya, we have a blast. Search Carrera slot car racing on YouTube and check it out.

I still have about 10, 15 working H.O. scale cars from about 45 years ago.  I also have enough track to set up and mess around with.  The last time I had it out of the box was about 15 years ago, and the time before that, probably 25 years ago.  All cars worked to some extent.  My kit still contained the baby food jar that has some STP in it that was used to give tires a little traction

Had the TCR with the passing & about 24 vehicles. Was amazing what just 1 tire would do to a car. Had the Indy cars so fast that even going around on the outside they would not stay on the track. Gave everything to my 2 younger brothers & the asshole stepdad sold all of it to a neighbor for 2 bucks so he could get himself a quart. Damn the parts & extra track alone was worth 50 bucks at least.

My father owns and operates the Western Illinois Slot Car Racers Society, or WISCRS, outside of Gladstone, IL/Burlington, IA.  They have a large 8-lane road course for 1/24 scale cars, an HO scale road course, and a large HO scale oval/rectangle.  There are regional traveling groups that schedule races there, and he's traveled to other locations within a few hours drive to race as well.  http://www.glueside.com/wiscrs/

Are you guys buying new track pieces from Carrera, and then buying old cars with the sprint car bodies?

I'm actually attempting to re-fit/re-work the chassis of a digital Carrera F1 car to accept model sprint car body parts. It's a real challenge. Not sure how successful I'll be. The slot car sprint car bodies aren't life like enough imo. So everything I'm attempting is using new Carrera. As mentioned, I went digital to have the most real like racing ...... tap button lane change, programable cars etc........

I have 2 home built cars from the mid 60s. I bought what i thought were all the best components, but I still got beaten by kit cars. I think  (A) mine might have been too heavy (B) wrong gearing?) (C) Other guys were better drivers

But mine are cooler!!!
