The Good - Racing in January, midget racing is awesome, and what a great race the final was!

The Bad - Bell wins again (Ok thats not really that bad but KKM's dominance is crazy)

The Ugly - The show was ran so slowly a good amount of people were upset both there and at home

The other 5 nights the races were done very early, the earliest in years!! So maybe those upset people should look at the overall picture and not just 1 night

I've heard about the delays, which is understandable, and even think sometimes the criticism isn't warranted, but it sounds like in this case it was excessive.

Wasn't this televised live on MAV TV, which I would think would speed up the event.

IA Dirt, will you be going to STL next year too?

STL has a lot of fenders and the track is rough.... so IDK probably not but you never know Smile Watched it online this past year and it was okay.

I will agree we were out of there good time other nights. Saturday though... thats the worst amount of down time I've ever been a part of. Had to get there at 8am to get a good seat. We could have done the whole show after lunch and finished at the same time. 5 races in five hours? Mostly I feel bad for those complaining who were watching on MAVTV. Trying to convince new fans to come over to dirt here. Like I said great racing but if I don't head down next year I'll just have someone DVR the show and watch the 40 mins of racing in an hour instead of 5.

When they have to keep saying "as soon as we get to racing we will broadcast it, you wont miss a second of racing action" it's a red flag. It seemed like they had several impromptu interviews, they were scrambling to fill live airtime!

The majority of complaints from the races in 2018 were concerning the fumes and dust, both much more than in past years.  This year they noticably made a great effort to minimize these issues.  The preliminary nights were great and completed in record times with minimal dust issues.  However, Saturday took a much greater effort and time to prepare the track to reduce the dust. Yes, the show was drug out with a lot of down time and delays.  However during these down periods, the track was being reworked and the efforts resulted in a great track without the dust issues from last year.  For me, the trade-off was worth down time.

My only complaint about the Chili Bowl is the large screen monitor on the far east end of the track.  It is impossible, from the west end grandstands to make out the names and postions and the lap counter.  I understand that it would take a large amount of cash but I would like to see a 3 sided monitor placed overhead in the center of the track.  Which brings up the question, whatever happened to the large scoreboard that used to be in the Northeast corned, turn two that shown in large numbers and letters, drivers names, numbers, lap times and lap numbers?  It would be great to have it back.

All in all a great year with reduced fumes and dust.  Thanks to all that made it possible.

Lots of truth there. The dust was waaaayyyy better this year. The large screen is worthless to about everyone but 1/2 the front stretch. Never gonna be perfect. I feel like the TV broadcast had to be brutal to sit through.

Agreed there, was longer delay I can remember in a non scheduled break time. I went down quick and didn't get food to so I wouldnt miss anything, then come back to a 2 hour delay because of the seat issue as well.

It seems like we lost all our time between the E and D features.    They were supposed to run the pole scrambles right after the Ds at 5 pm,  but it was a little after 7 before the first two cars pushed off.   IIRC,  they waited a long time after the Es to start the track prep....I was thinking that a last second decision was made and that they wanted the scrambles to be live on MavTV....but I could be wrong.

Its all Good

On vacation - not working. Watching endless hours of midget racing. hanging with friends. Catching up with those friends you only see at the chili bowl. Enjoying the build up and drama that unfolds during the week.

And not worrying about when it gets done!! I was in no hurry to get back home and off to work

I thought it was fine just hard to keep a good track all week. With close to 70 flips that also takes time to regroup. One thing I miss was Kevin and Bryan being part of the show. Larson and Bell put on the show the last lap and handled it with class.Hypothetical of course but imagine if Sam or Kevin would have been the two going for the lead like that!I would guess Tony will eventually take over Chili Bowl when Emmett retires.Probably not as much as some think but has to be a profitable undertaking and the timing is perfect to get 350 guys plus the over 1200 that run the shoot out for basically a prestigous trophy. The Boone Nationals has the privilage of racing all night when they farm their track to keep a good track for over 700 cars.

If the longer than normal breaks for track prep and live TV on Saturday is to be the case in the future,  MavTV should consider buying the rights to replay highlights from the quaifying nights and filling in the gaps with those.

I was there for every on track minute, except for Monday practice and other than the Saturday night time debacle everything was great.

Monday through Friday the shows were done between 9:30 and 10:15 and only Thursday night had track issues with a curb that was turning them over alot.  Friday was the only night where the feature went all green and the leaders actually got into traffic.

The time management on Saturday was a disaster, not sure how things got so completely out of control. After the E-mains they brought out both the sheepsfoot and the grader and completely reworked the track.  How did a track that held up for a dozen features in the morning and another dozen in the afternoon go to crap so fast?

The 6 day format thinned the field by 15 cars or so a night and seemed to make it a little bit easier for the cream to get to the front.  But with only two A-main spots a night there was still a sense of urgency.

I cannot count the amount of times a driver was in a transfer spot or already had accumulated a bunch of passing points only to try for one spot more and lose it all.  Yeley and little Haud both paid the price for being super aggressive.

I complained to management several times about the scoring display being unreadable from the west end.  They did increase the font size later in the week, but even then it was tough to read.  There needs to be 2 boards, one for replays and a second for lineups. Sure, most of us have smart phones but having to refer to it all the time is stupid.

I grab a dust mask as I come in on Saturday and use it for the B's and A.

I love the Chili Bowl, it comes a very very close second to the Nationals in atmosphere.

Cbell is way deep in Larson's head now.

I purchased a streaming package from NKTV for a month so I could get MAVTV.  I probably won't do that next year, I'm not hanging around all night again watching rod end commercials waiting for the A.
