SEXTON/GATLIN RACING RESULTS FROM PLACERVILLE - AT BAKERSFIELD THIS SATURDAY!

(Lakeside, CA, September 30, 2018) Sexton/Gatlin Racing, comprised of family patriarch Brent Sexton and his two teenage sons Dalton and Grant, contested the final two nights of the four-race “Civil War Series” matching the California Lightning Sprint Cars vs the Bay Cities Racing Association last weekend.  The four-race mini-series began on two CLS tracks, the Bakersfield Speedway and Santa Maria Raceway, before heading to the BCRA’s home turf for last week’s events at the Placerville Speedway.

The team was shorthanded on the first night of the racing sojourn to Northern California when Dalton had to miss the race due to playing high school football.  Things did not start off on the bright side for Brent and Grant on the first night as dead transponders on both cars did not allow them to get times in qualifying.  Thus, they had to start last in their respective heat races. Brent took a fourth in his heat to earn his ticket into the main event.  Grant could only advance to sixth in his heat and was forced to run the B-Main.  Once again, starting at the back, he was able to get up to 10th, but that was not high enough and he was forced to miss the A-Main.

Brent had his work cut out for him in the race that not only matched the CLS vs BCRA, but also five fast cars that came down from the state of Washington.  And, the fourth-place finish combined with no qualifying time meant he was starting on the outside of the eighth row for the 20-lapper.  He did manage to get as high as 13th at one point and was going forward when he got tagged by another car in turn one late in the race.  He slowed to almost a stop, but kept on going avoiding a yellow flag.  The momentary blip saw him drop far back and with no more yellows in the race, he ended up 18th.

Things started out right on Saturday as missing Friday’s show did not bother Dalton.  The kid qualified third overall with a time of 12.153.  Brent qualified right behind him in fourth with a lap of 12.816 and Grant stopped the clocks at 12.500, which was 24th fastest of the 33-cars on hand.

Heat race action saw all three go straight to the main event with Dalton taking the fourth-place spot in the third heat and Brent and Grant making their way into the 20-lapper finishing third and fourth respectively in the fourth heat.

For Saturday’s main event, Dalton and Brent were side by side in row two.  Grant, due to his qualifying time, was near the rear of the field.  In a main plagued by red and yellow flags, despite being clobbered early on, Brent was the highest finisher of the three-car team when after running as high as third, he finished eighth.  Grant came from the rear to finish 15th and Dalton, who was having mechanical issues, placed 18th.

After Placerville, Brent still finds himself firmly entrenched in the third spot in the championship standings.  Likewise, Grant has a firm grip on ninth and the “Rookie of the Year” award with only four races remaining in the 2018 campaign.  Dalton, who has now missed two races due to his football commitments, still finds himself in the 12th spot in the championship standings.

This Saturday, Sexton/Gatlin Racing will be making its fourth appearance of 2018 at the Bakersfield Speedway.  In the previous three outings, Brent has a sixth and two seventh place finishes.  Grant has finished 12th twice and 18th once.  Dalton has a ninth and a 21st on the high-banked 1/3 of a mile track.  Dalton   also missed one race for a football game.
