Sorry, I know this is like an open invitation to strawser , and I usually don't get too excited about the historically low August car counts, but (12) 410's at the Port on Saturday - geeezzz!

Yes, but I'm sure they were good quality cars. I'm sure nearly all of them were good enough to get a top ten finish. wink

Well let’s see. Hodnett, Zearfoss, McFadden, and Starks were in Knoxville/Pevely. Heimbach and Ryan Taylor running360’s at Selinsgrove. Buckwalter and Ryan Smith MIA and McIntyre running Sharon for some reason. He was at Lernerville Friday nite so maybe it was weather related???? Unfortunately with guys wanting to travel and do other things, especially this time of year, this could be the norm.

I've seen fields of 12 (winged 410) and 11 (nw) sprintcars in Ohio this year. As Sammy would say, that's a "pisser".

Still have yet to see car counts in the single digits though - bet I could if I went to an asphalt track!

Nothing to worry about. Car counts around this time of year are always lower than normal. Twelve is a bit lower than I remember but they have always been low around Knoxville time. Things will be just fine the rest of the year.

Not hijacked.....12 cars speaks volumes about what the 410's think that track!

I think a mid summer break could be a good idea, with the 410 tracks taking off for 2 weeks and running something different. Then the week following Knoxville you could have a double point night and pay a slightly higher purse.

Not that they need to schedule around Knoxville necessarily, but a 12 car field is not enough for a good show.

I touched upon this very subject a couple of years ago. It's been obvious for awhile that Port's weekly sprint car field was hanging by a thread. When a track depends on stealing cars from other tracks, other tracks/series rainouts and off weekends to get a decent field like Port does most weeks, there are bound to be nights like that and Port has seen a few of them in the past couple of years. They only have about 5-7 cars who are there every week no matter what. There are a few (Hodnett, Lucas etc.) guys who are there most weeks but run elsewhere when there's a big money race. I'm not the least bit surprised. Par for the course. That said, Brouse made a couple of passive aggressive comments about the guys who weren't there that I personally thought were classless and uncalled for. Seems to me, he thinks the sprint car world revolves around Port Royal and this past weekend was a reminder that it in fact does not. Who can blame guys for going to Knoxville to compete in the biggest sprint car race in the world? A win at Knoxville can literally make a drivers career and there's a ton of money to be made every time you hit the track. I don't think it's appropriate for the announcer to passively aggressively talk shit on guys who opted to race elsewhere that night like he did. Port Royal's biggest race is the Tuscarora 50 which is a great race, but it isn't even close to being a pimple on the ass of the Knoxville Nationals.

I live 15 minutes from the track.....

I would rather go elsewhere to spend my hard earned money.

As you can tell by my signature I do go elsewhere.

I have been to Port hundreds of times and nothing ever changes on how they prepare the track.  I got tired of seeing the same old...same old.  So I left and don't plan to return until they learn how to prepare that track.

Maybe they need to offer free pit passes to steal some Lincoln 410 teams. It's worked well for them in getting late models from Selinsgrove.

Is that really true about the late models? I was wondering why Selinsgrove's weekly late model field is down slightly from the past few years. The track has been pretty good for the most part this season and the new outside pit has been a Godsend for viewing the entire track. I like both tracks but there is nothing like the pure speed for both the Sprint Cars & Late Models @ Selinsgrove in my opinion.

12 410 teams show up to race for $3600 to win.

37 305 teams show up for $350 to win.

Just signs of things to come. It happened elsewere it can happen in central Pa. unless something is done to contain engine costs.

I've heard from a lot of reliable sources that they pay extra tow money under the table to lure sprinters from other tracks. I know it's been done before but I have a real issue with that considering how they put themselves and how others put them on a pedestal like they do no wrong. I didn't know about them doing that stuff for late models however. That's flat out wrong. If they're doing it to for Selinsgrove cars, you can bet they're doing it for cars from Hagerstown and stuff too. Come to think of it, I read an article awhile back that someone wrote about Hagerstown scrapping the weekly super late model program in favor of specials only and Lisa Plessinger mentioned the fact that a lot of their regulars are racing at other tracks being a big reason for the change and she mentioned Port Royal. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but that makes me wonder. Fact is, if they're as great as they claim to be, they shouldn't have to stoop so low as to use crooked D.C. political tactics to get cars.

Without proof, do you really think that was called for? The only Selinsgrove regular running Port Royal regularly is Jeff Rine. One. And why would Port Royal pay Rine to go to Port. He basically dominates the same as he did at Selinsgrove. Why would Port want him winning all the time. That doesn’t make sense. Next in line is Schadel and Knaub who have each raced 7 times at Port and missed 7 races according to their point standings.  And Schadel was a Port regular before his time off. As far as car counts, was at Selinsgrove for 22 cars for their $5000 to win 360 National Open and that included two Port Royal regulars. Like the first poster said, geez. And neither have anything to do with track surface.

“I’ve heard”. C’mon. Just because you can Google it, doesn’t mean it’s true.

And who was paid? And why weren’t THEY at Port on Saturday?

The people I heard from would know. They don't piss around spreading rumors. One person in particular confirmed one of the drivers that they know personally. I'm not going to name drop because it doesn't matter who it is. There's no rule against it and it sure as hell isn't something that hasn't been done before in the past by many others. I just don't personally like it. But don't forget, it goes both ways. If a particular person can be bought by you, they can also be bought by someone else as well so don't be surprised when it comes back to bite you in the ass in the future. I personally wouldn't want to get into a bidding war with someone like Alan Kreitzer because that's one you'll never win.
