Heading to the Chili Bowl for the first time this year and couldnt be more excited.  Just curious if anyone can give me a list of things that are must do's or see's when the racing isnt going on.  Where do people go, what do people do in the off times?

For me the Chili Bowl starts around noon on Tuesday with a trip to Ike's Chili House.    You will see a lot of racing shirts at the Hard Rock Casino and the Elephant Run Bar after the races.

There is some country bar that a lot of people go line dancing at on Thursday night, but I have never been there.

For food you can't beat Ron's Hamburger's and Chili. And the world's best BBQ Burn Company BBQ.

That was the Caravan Cattle Club and I believe it is closed now.

Ohio here myslef. will be 4th straight year at Chili Bowl. Burn Co BBQ is a must. 18th & boston ave location has been there a few years now. They just opened the Jenks location this past summer.

Also try Fat guys Burger bar, uptown by the ball diamond & Jimmy Hula's which is down the street from expo on Yale ave.

If you know anything about Waynesfield raceway park & the "Keystone corner" in turn 1there at Waynesfield, thtll be us at the chili bowl. hope you enjoy yourself.

Every time I go to Tulsa a few Coney Islanders is a must.  In fact I generally take about a dozen or so home with me and freeze for later in the year (the ones I don't eat on the way home).   One of the best Coney Islander places is on 11th West of Yale and across from the University of Tulsa.   There is another location on Harvard just North of 21st in a small strip mall on the East side of Harvard, about 1/2 block N. of 21st.    A lot of racing folk can be found for breakfast at the cafe on the SW corner of 11th & Yale... part of the old Route 66 that goes through Tulsa - mainly on 11th street.   Interesting architecture in Tulsa if interested.  Of course several Indian Casinos.

I went to the Chili Bowl one time several years ago and we ate lunch at a place called Tally's cafe.   Seems like it wasn't very far from the Expo Center as I remember.   The place was fairly packed, but it's much larger than it looks from the outside.   We were seated fairly quickly, the service was great, and the food was awesome.   Lot's of folks wearing racing shirts in there, and while we were there Ricky and Danica came in to eat lunch.

For breakfast, Mom's Family Diner at the corner of Mingo and 41st is go to place. Couple times Emmett and his crew are there.

Phat Phillies is outstanding on South Peoria.

Everyone has given some great places. we have been going since 2002 and love it. Tally's is our favorite place to eat at, they have huge portions also. We normally get to the expo early and enjoy walking in the pits watching everyone getting the cars ready for race day. We usually will park close to the expo and bring a cooler with sandwhiches and drinks and sit in the car and watch them wheel out cars outside the expo to warm them up or test them. Also we like going to the Remote control car races in the building behind the expo during the day and watch. Another note is to bring a pillow or seat cushion to sit on. If you have reserved seats like we do, we go the first morning we get there and put our cushions down and we tie strap them so we can leave them the whole week. Inside the expo we like the frito pies, corn dogs, chicken on a stick, and the ice cream.

We've been going for 25 years now, been to a lot of different places to eat but don't do too much nightlife.  The OK BBQ scene is a little lacking compared to other parts of the county, but Burn Co is pretty solid & the by far the best you'll find in Tulsa.  Savastano's Pizzeria (deep dish) in Bixby & Andolini's Pizzeria in Broken Arrow/Tulsa are really good.  Ron's Hamburgers (multiple locations throughout Tulsa/surronding areas) have solid burgers and good chili.  Nelson's Buffeteria in Tulsa is good straight-forward place for home cooking at lunch.  For Tex-Mex, we might hit Chuy's or Mi Cocina's, both TX based chains, but with good food.

You don't say where you are from, or where BBQ is better than it is locally around Tulsa.  Perhaps you havn't been to the right places.  Oklahoma Style BBQ is one of the best.  Head West from Expo Sq the short distance to Harvard st. Turn North (right) and go about 4 miles, its on the right side of the road.  When you go past Pine st, you're about 1/2 mile farther North.  Another great place, although a bit of a drive, about 25 miles, is Mac's BBQ in the town of Skiatook, North of Expo Sq.  Take hwy 75 North to hwy 20, go West (left) about 5 miles to town.  Just past the WalMart on the right is Macs.  Also in the Tulsa area for Mexican food at a great price is Senor Salsa, find them on the net. I reside in the area and have been to almost all the Chili Bowls.  If there is anyway I can assist, let me know.  A great place for breakfast and the owners are gearheads is the Freeway Cafe's.  There's two near Expo Sq.  One on Sheridan at about 6th st.  And one on 3rd st West of Utica.

Carol, the place we went to is closed.  The only places that have them now that I am aware of is at the Indian Casinos.  At the HardRock, a cafe called the Flip Side Grill has them.

This is my first post here and I'll be attending my first Chili Bowl.  Are there any guidelines for seat cushions?  I haven't waded through the CB site to try to look for them yet.  18" wide maybe?  Are seats with backs allowed?

I know they say no stadium seats, especially the metal frames ones, but every year I see a few being used.

I have seen seats with fabric backs and flexible straps.

The one I use now I got from Menards is 18 wide by 10 deep.
