I was there, as well as Turkey Night the following week. To be honest I don't remember anything from the sprints but from Turkey Night I did walk the track at about 1:00am, that was a surreal experience, but the most profound memory was after walking the track I was next to the Press Box door by the front gate and to see the expressions on the faces of the people leaving the Press Box for the last time----words cannot describe the visual sight-----Sorrow, sadness, finality and closure, from each and every person leaving the press Box. It was a moment I will never forget.

I remember the last CRA race well.  Spent the evening on Freddie Spencer's English bus overlooking the first turn.  I bribed my way onto the top of the bus with a couple of six packs of over priced concession beer but it was worth it.  Spent the evening with one of the legends of Indy car building - Lujie Lesovsky (sp?).  That alone was more than worth the price of the beer!  Wonder how much "juice" had been added to the fuel in the "Little Red Sucker" that night for Billy Boat to achieve the sub 18 second qualifying lap.  Believe Dean Thompson drove the pace car that evening which was most appropriate.  I picked up a small amount of clay from the track and formed it into a little square.  It resided in my chest of drawers for years before disappearing.  Lots of great memoriees from Ascot.
