My Brother and I have never been to the track but pan to attend the 4 day Gold Cup this year.  Concerning tickets.  If we purchase general admission tickets for all 4 days, we can save some money but are the seats ok.  The ticket information states that general admission is Rows #1 and below.  How are the sight lines from these locations?  Is it worth the extra money to purchase reserve seating?  Any advice is appreciated.

Dont waste your time or money.  Gold Cup isnt a shadow of what it was in the 90's or early 2000's.  Its the biggest nothing burger National Race there is on the schedule.  It pains me too say that as Im from NorCal but truly its a real dog. Ive been going since late 60's and gave up on it three years ago.  Its just poorly run, purse is garbage, car count terrible and really nobody goes anymore.  If your a out of towner go to Trophy Cup at least your going to see some racing, a great purse, and a large car counts and more of a happening.  Gold Cup is dead, died 10 years ago atleast and should be renamed Tin Cup. God rest Gold Cup it once was a grand race. R.I.P.

I don't have as strong an opinion as the others who posted, but would agree gold cup has gone downhill.

As for the reserved seats question, I would recommend getting them for Saturday because the reserved seats are higher up and you won't get hit with a dirt storm all night.

for the remainder of the nights, I would probably get gen admission and just sit in an unsold reserved seat in turn 4.

My advice: go. Previous posts way too negative. I've been the last three years. If ROTORGLOW hasn't been for three years then he missed Jon Allard's last lap last corner pass of Pittman to win 2014 Gold Cup. He also missed Rico Abreu beating the Outlaws last year in a very entertaining race. It's a good 4 nights of racing. Where else can you see 2 consecutive nights of the Outlaws, good car counts (about 40 410's last year), and have daytime fan events happening? (drive a kart at Heart Attack Karts on the fairgrounds.) And USAC/CRA and midgets have always been good. Get reserved seating in the main grandstands up higher, have a great time, and support dirt track racing. This may all sound like someone's paying me to say this, but it's just my opinion.

I agree, previous posts too negative

Go.  Racing has changed over the years . No longer are there huge car counts anywhere.

Im a WA fan and we don't even have 410's racing weekly anymore. In fact WA and OR only have the Outlaw dates (4 nights ) for the only 410 racing all year. So that's why I make the trip to Chico for the Gold Cup.

Its a good show, there's some good solid CA cars there ( Rico, Roth Motorsports, Williams Motorsports, Hirst, Kaeding(s), Tarlton,,,,) and the USAC midgets actually were impressive Thurs night.

I buy reserved covered grandstand seats , sit high so you can see everywhere. You can always move around and sit somewhere else vacant if you want to roam. Saturday night I upgrade to a Pit Pass and sit in the pit grandstands, it's a rush sitting low in T3 as they rocket by.  Roam the pits, see what's going on up close, and when it's over your in the pits shaking hands and snapping pics!

First time I went in 2003 I had a great time.  Stayed at the Holiday Inn, woke in the morning to many race teams doing maintenance in the parking lot (Kinser, Swindell, Schatz ). I helped Guy Forbrook tap off a rear brake rotor from the axle,,got asked to be a Bikini Contest judge Friday night,,frickin awesome!

I'm making the trip this year, and then going to Calistoga the following weekend. CA in Sept is nice,,,

see you there

i have been going to the good cup since 99' and only missed one, 2014.  buy non reserved and just move around as the bleachers get filled, easier and cheaper.  the naysayers are just that!!!

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

Roger, are you going?  I was lucky enough to do 10 years in a row starting in the mid 90's back in it's prime from what I am told.  It was certainly a blast with very high car counts.  How be your do a little review of the trip if you take it, I would be curious as to what a complete stranger who has been to many different tracks over the years has to say.  Enjoy, the Trophy Cup is something to have on your bucket list as well, never did make that but have been to the track for W of O shows and their format is excellent along with the cowboy up racing......

Many things gurt thw Gold Cup, mandatory WOO membership, flat wings, spec tires, tethers.  Before all that got added, every guy with a sprint car would show up for thw party and do some racing besides.  Now the extra expense has kept people away.  Added to all that, there was a period where the track surface at Chico was crap.  It looks like the track surface us sorted out, I was up there 2 weeks ago and it looked like they nailed the track prep.  A little too goid foe the heats, but racy for the feature.  I will keep going to Gold Cup, maybe even bring the car.  I usually see a good show when I go to an Outlaw race, do why pass up one of the few chances to go to one locally.     I am hoping that car counts rebound as more teams add tethers to their inventory.

Yes Mike it looks like we are going.  My Brother and I try to make at least one field trip a year.  He's also a motorhead.  We're flying to Frisco Sun, going to Calistoga Sun night, Petaluma Monday night and then the 4 day gold cup.  Also plan to take in Alcatraz and a few museums.  Should be a fun trip. and can't forget the Dungeness crab at the Warf.  I'll let you know our opinion of the Gold Cup.

Great to hear, curious to see what you think.  I used to have two photographer friends fly out from Ohio and Indiana just to shoot the Wheestands and the racing was that good about 15 -18 years ago.  Look for Shawn MacDonald (sp) and give him a slap from Canada, all the best, be safe, Take It Easy....

General admission tickets will be fine for Wednesday and Thursday nights. You'll be able to move around. But I recommend reserved seats as high as possible on Friday and Saturday nights. The stands start to fill up for the WoO races, especially on Saturday, and the GA seats are pretty low. I refuse to sit in the bottom dozen rows of turn 4 because I don't trust the fence.

It's true that Gold Cup ain't what it used to be, but it's still a great time and you'll see high-quality racing on a well-prepared track.
