Does any one have any information on the format for the Jackson nationals? Additionally, any hotels near the track that are decent?

Not terribly sure what's actually in Jackson.  Not much, but there is one or two smaller motels.  30 miles either way on the interstate would be Worthington or Fairmont which both have a number of hotels right on the interstate that are pretty decent.

I went to the Jackson Nationals last fall and stayed in Fairmont, Minnesota, which is 30 miles east of Jackson. The Super 8 that I stayed in there was clean.

There are a couple of motels at the freeway exit on both sides of I90 that I have stayed in a few times.  Depending on the turnout I'm guessing that they're probably already booked for next weekend.  I have always gotten off the freeway and taken the road to the track so in spite of all the times I have been to Jackson I've never seen the town of Jackson.

I was thinking about going down for the Saturday night finale and have made many redeye runs to Jackson when I was writing and shooting but I'm not up to those drives anymore.  I'm finding that comfortable spectating isn't so easy and spectating alone without someone to share the driving and help save seats when one of us has to get up is not so easy.  Seems like whenever I go to a race alone and have to get up my spot is gone when I get back to where I was sitting.  My son has been spending time with his family and isn't going to races so if I go anymore it's going to be a solo deal.

I was thinking about running down there next Saturday but I don't want to drive home alone at midnight or have to sit on a metal bench by myself.  There's a big Modified race this weekend an hour from me but seating at that one is planks without backs and no room for a lawn chair.  If I go to a major sporting event or concert I wouldn't have any concerns about the seating but since I stopped taking photos I'm finding that seating at these tracks is terrible for anyone with neck and back issues.  When the old gray haired guy gets up to pee they spread out and snatch his spot.  The grandstand side of the catch fence has been an eye opener.  wink

Have not been there.  However, we are coming back through Jackson on the way home from the Black Hills in June.  Staying at the KOA which is a couple of miles from the track.  Cabins I am assuming?

Most likely the first two nights it will be the normal 2 flight qualifying (assuming 38 or more cars). Event points of qualifying, heat, and feature finish both nights. Those numbers will line up heats saturday, and guys will get points for those heats too. Top point earners plus saturday heat winners will go to dash, everyone else will line up straight up for features.

AmericInn of Jackson is what I would recommend as they sponsor the track, but they might be booked by now. There is also camping at the track. That might be booked too, I don't know for sure.

There are 2 single rooms left at the Earth Inn in Jackson 507-847-5603, otherwise all the motels in town are filled.  As of this morning there were 5 camping spots left under the water tower.  Call Tim Beck to reserve 507-398-9083.

3 day 410 format is as follows:

Jackson Saturday Format

Combined Event Points from the Thursday and Friday events combined with points from Saturday’s Heat races will be utilized to create all final night Main lineups.

The top 4 in Combined Points from the Thursday/Friday events will be locked into the Dash in positions 1 thru 4.

HEATS:  8 Laps - Lined straight-up utilizing Combined Event Points – Heat race finishes will be pointed and added to each team’s Combined Event Points which creates a Total Combined Points order.

·        3 Heats (31 cars or less) Top 5 transfer to the Feature, Heat winners to the Dash.

·        4 Heats (32 to 48 cars) Top 4 transfer to the Feature, Heat winners to the Dash.

·        6 Heats (49 cars and up) Top 2 transfer to the Feature, Heat winners to the Dash.

DASH:  6 Laps - 8 or 10 cars - no redraw.

·        Top 4 in Combined Event Points from Thursday/Friday plus the final day Heat Race winners plus the top 1 or 2 in Total Combined Points that did not win their Heat but did make the transfer will make up the 8 or 10 car Dash.

·        Dash positions 1 thru 4 line straight-up by Combined Event Points, remaining Dash positions line-up by Total Combined Points.

·        3 Heat program: the next highest Total Combined Point car that didn’t win their Heat but made the transfer will go the 8-car Dash.

·        4 Heat program - the next 2 highest Total Combined Point cars that didn’t win their Heat but made the transfer go to the 10-car Dash.

·        6 Heat program: only the Heat winners go to the 10-car Dash.

D-Main, C-Main and LCS line up by Total Combined Event Points.

·        D-Main (8 Laps) – 2 Cars Advance and tag the C-Main in their D-Main finishing order.

·        C-Main (10 Laps) – 2 Cars Advance and tag the LCS in their C-Main finishing order.

·        LCS (12 Laps) – (5 cars if 3 Heats, 4 cars if 4 Heats and 8 cars if 6 Heats) transfer to the Feature and tag the rear in their LCS finishing order.

Feature (30) $25,000 to Win.

·        Feature lined up by Total Combined Points behind Dash cars, LCS transfers tag the rear.

·         Maximum 2 WoO Provisionals

Tie breakers:  1). Average Feature finish from both preliminary events.

2). Positions gained by combining both preliminary events Feature finishes.

                         3). Combined average qualifying finish.

4). Best finishing position from 2nd preliminary Feature finish.

360's & 305's is similiar but no qualfying, draw/redraw for heats and then top 6 in combined points are locked into Saturday A main.  If not in the top 6, all other cars will draw for heat race lineups on Saturday night and features will be lined up by heat race finishes.

Will there be updated points after each night so that fans can follow along, or what points are worth for each event.  It would be nice to follow along like we do at Knoxville.

I'm not going to make it back from CO, I see it's on Dirtvision's schedule but hope it's not their replay schedule like last year.

Does the new Jackson grandstand have seat backs or benches only?  There is a chance I might run down there to watch next Saturday if I'm feeling up to the midnight redeye drive home.  I haven't sat in the stands since the 90's and am totally clueless on the current status of the grandstands at any of these tracks.  Seat backs required to keep the "unobtanium" in my neck from flaring up, lawn chair sections preferred over metal.  wink

New grandstands are very nice, they do include backrests on all seats throughout the venue.

Do I remember correctly that TQ bought the new grandstands from a NASCAR track (can't remember which one) or was that another track...I can't remember...

Yeah, I feel like I remember that too.  I think it was 1 of Daytona's corners or something.
