Was just wondering, thinking, if I was a car owner or a driver for that matter why don't they keep a notebook?  Maybe they do, but I have been around a few drivers in the last few years that do not know what a standard screw driver is. Obviously crew chiefs keep them but what happens when there is a seperation??  who keeps the BOOK??

If it's a hired crew chief that notebook belongs to him.

It's a SAE one. Won't work on metric screws.

So it won't work on 6/8" tubing stretcher?

Just curious---why would all drivers have to know about tools?  Is this another one of those "kids these days" speeches about ready to happen?

I am thinking some drivers are hired solely for their driving ability.  Has been happening for decades.

It sucks when all you have is a fine tooth because don't you no it, it will be a coarse slot. Strip the head of the screw every time.

True and this typically is the standard on large touring sanctions (WoO).  If your local driver works in conjunction with the crew cheif, it's another story.  Copy for eahc maybe, hahaSmile

Another note, you say "notebook." Schatz and Tricky Ricky have a 3 Ring Binder for each track they visit. For the one's they hit annually for the last 20 or so years multiple 3 Ring Binders that are full.  It's actually a sight to see...pretty cool the backlog of notes they keep.

What's more impressive than that...

You should see some of the financial records these long standing team owner/drivers have kept throughout the years.  I bet more than a few could show you tire receipts from forty years ago.

Some years ago, I once took a photo of Guy Forbrook studying a pocket notebook when they were readying a car to race.  Unlikely that I could find the photo but I always thought that it was one of my best.

Awesome! I always like the "behind the scenes / stuff some fans don't get to see or think happens" photos like this. Literally checking notes while adjusting/setting up car. Cool stuff.
