I am not a mechanic, nor am I associated with any race team, just a fan, so I am asking....

Engines are obvious.......so I will ask about the other parts of a racecar...

If a top dollar team could replace their torsion bars and shocks and all suspension parts with new ones before every race....would that give them a measurable advantage in handling and getting traction....over another team that could only replace those things every 5-20 races? I don't know what is common as far as maintenance and how long of a useful life some of the stressed parts have.

I ask because I am wondering if a team like TSR has fresher stuff all of the time and if that could be some of the reason for the surge he seems to have in the second half of the season every year? I am not taking away from Schatz driving, The guy is amazing.

I mean, is it one thing to have used parts that still have useful life to them without breaking..., and another thing to have brand new parts all of the time?

I hope this is not a dumb question...pardon my ignorance please.

Also, not a "skilled" mechanic, but I would think that fresher parts provid more reliability (no DNFs) and a more predictable performance (your going to get the rebound you planned on when you set-up the car and such). I would also think that it helps the driver as they don't have to worry about babying the car to make stuff last. I still remember Sammy winning a main on a sick motor and the car owner (Forbrook IIRC) saying "Great, we blew up a $50,000 motor to win $10,000". I believe Sammy was let go after that.
