All,
I am wondering what creates the smell of the exhaust of a sprint car, I know they burn methanol fuel but that does not create the same smell when burned by it's self, is there a oil additive to the fuel that gives it that destinct smell?

There's not supposed to be anything added to the fuel. The smell would simply be a byproduct of the combustion process.

They also sell the stuff for gasoline, I know J & P Cycles has it for street motorcycles.

Agree on this. The only thing that always boggles my mind is why midgets and sprint cars smell quite a bit different (I prefer the smell of midgets more). But I am assuming this is because midgets probably do a better job of completely burning the fuel up (a little more efficient)
Real race cars don't have fenders...

All i know its the best smell out of a race car ever. Especially from a sprint car. Its seems like its the most noticed during hotlaps.

They prefer the term Little People and I doubt they want you following em around sniffing em.
I apologize, I couldn't help myself! No harm meant

When I was a kid, way back in the day, my dad would add a little castor oil to his motorcycle gas. I loved it, because it gave it a very similar smell to sprint car exhaust. I'll never forget going to the local drug store with him once when he was buying the castor oil. The lady asked him if it was for human or animal? He said, "motorcycle." She just laughed and questionably said "ok," and sacked it up.

I dig that smell too. I commented about it once to an old timer, how its not really pleasant like roses or bacon cooking, but we still like it. His reply? "Just like gunpowder"

They will not nail you for the use of alkylube. Some use it some do not.
