My son and I went.

Great Racing, especially in the 450 Class. 8 lead changes that I counted in the feature.

750 class ran 25 laps with Jason Mees taking the win in a photo finish / hand scoring decision as the official margin of victory per the electronic timing and scoring of 0.000 seconds (a dead heat basically).

FAN FRIENDLY format, as all qualifying was held during the day and then the pit area was OPEN from 5:45-6:45 (no ticket required) with all riders doing autographs (my son got tons of them) and some doing temporary tattoos for the kids.

Hope this becomes an annual event

Crowd was pretty good, I'd say somewhere in the range of 3500-4000.

Glad to hear it was a good crowd and good show. Had to work and couldn't make it. Great to have these special shows when the sprints are done. Hope they come back next year.

According to the press release, it was not determined by "hand scoring" but by tapping into an alternate set of program code that determined the margin of victory to be .00004.

Someone needs to tell me what .00004 second is in distance @ 100 mph (guessing that is about how fast they were going at the S/F line). My thinking is that a dead finish should have been ruled because there are too many factors affecting accuracy to validate that short of a distance.

I think that I have the answer....

.00004 second at 100 mph is about .0094 inches or about twice the width of an average human hair.

If true, I cannot believe that the two transponders involved were within .0094 inches of each other on each bike. I love computer transponders, but they are not perfect and a photo finish should have declared a draw.

Pretty cool stuff. Gotta check out these bike races some time.

I'm just wondering if they're going to acknowledge Shayna Texter as the first female to win a main event at the Knoxville Raceway. Not yet happened in sprint cars, midgets, late models or stock cars to my knowledge.

Dave Despain mentioned it on Wind Tunnel, but it was about the first female to win an AMA flat track event.

The picture on the AMA flat track website didn't make the finish appear to be that close but it apparently was.

Another good venue to see the AMA flat trackers is at Hagerstown MD. The series runs there in July and the races are outstanding .

This group's next meeting is in Brainerd, MN on September 24. Should be great racing!

It was a historic weekend all around at Knoxville,,,, Friday the Duebler family had 3 generations racing in one race,,, Grandfather, son and grandson... Saturday with the feature win by Ms Texter which the track should tout as she is the first female feature winner of anything at Knoxville, plus her family has a sprint car background as here grandfather raced with the URC..Then the close Twin feature... It was a super night of racing that hopefully can and will grow...

A little info on the Deublers. They are all originally from Sioux Falls. Dan is the partriarch. He is 80 and has been racing for many, many years. Eddie is his son and has a cycle shop in Sioux Falls and is mentioned in Wolfgang's book. Scottie is the grandson and is also the announcer for AMA and did the announcing on Saturday night. Oh, he also won on Friday and Dan placed 5th. Quite a story.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

The AMA event last weekend was indeed a great show. This show needs to be moved to July for example and stands will be full as we are competing with the football season now. It will be good to see the story on the Raceways news page, focusing on Shayna Texter being the first lady to win a major feature win at Knoxvillle Raceway and in an AMA event. The closeness in the twins class feature was also a thriller. It don't get any closer then this one.....

I think you added an additional zero, I think the margin of victory was .0004 sec. At 100 MPH that would make the distance a little under 3/4" But the winner was gaining so fast it was very hard to see the differance at the line. And the scoring loop is buried under the track so it is hard to tell if the painted finish line was actually directly above it.

Here is the video that is posted of the race on the Knoxville Raceway webpage:

And this link is the Knoxville Raceway video of the 450 class:

Wow, any way you look at it, that was one of the best finishes in dirt track racing....

Those big twins are running faster than 100mph.....At the Springfield mile, they're hitting just over a "buck fifty"....
