That had to have been one of the best Facilities I have been to with the absolute WORST race track..You think folks with that kind of money to put into a place would have some sort of an idea on how to fix their track, and if they don't,they need to hire and fly in the track prep crew from Knoxville,Iowa to help them out. What a mess.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway's dirt track is also a great facility, but the track isn't that great. I have been to it a couple of times and there isn't much passing because it is a sandy type dirt and they don't run many races on it. I think it is a general rule that if a dirt track isn't used most of the year the racing will suffer.

The crates or late models were turning over. That's rare. I don't know if it was the holes or over-driving or what that caused all the wrecks, but I read where the track was rough with holes.

I have to agree that the surface does need a ton of work, but the racing was still very exciting.  I was sitting coming off of turn two in the backstretch pit area and the track was so rough coming off two that cars were routinely getting airborne.  It was the cause of several wrecks during the night including the "big" late model crash where multiple cars flipped on the backstretch.

For some reason they just can't get the track to stay smooth.  It is not like they don't try!  They knocked the cushion (or mine field) down a couple of times throughout the night, but it just would get real rough a few laps after all the work.

The facilities are some of, if not the best, in the whole country and I have had an enjoyable time everytime I have been there.  You know what your going to get with the surface, but it still produces some great, fast racing.  If I was giving a grade, I would say B+.

Chicagoland Dirt track is the same way. I think it was Craig who just about broke his leg there cause of how rough it was. Don't know why they are going back again this year.

Did not see the race from Concord, yet, but if it is that bad, then they need to do as suggested and get someone in with a working knowledge of dirt.  Whadda concept,  Dirt hiring someone who knows dirt !!  As for Vegas,  I saw the outlaws there twice.  First time .... horrible, second time, awesome.  Smooth as glass and very fast.  The same guy won both times........ hmmmm.  Speaking of smooth.... Calistoga speedway last nite  was beautifully prepared.  Stayed wet all nite, no ruts and NO blue groove!

Back in April the track was the best I had seen it leading me to believe that they had gotten a handle on it. The attitude seems to be that they'll tolerate some holes, they just won't tolerate dust.

Yes, I have to agree with you about Calistoga being a great track this weekend! I was there on Saturday, but I couldn't make it on Sunday frown I was able to go to Friday nights GSC race at Petaluma where again the track was prepared very well and there was lots of passing and 18 laps with non stop racing. This weekend was a great 3 day race weekend for us Californians and beautiful weather to boot Smile Next weekend should be good also with the GSC going to two small racey tracks, Ocean speedway and Placerville speedway.

Ocean Speedway is in Watsonville, CA and it is a 1/4 mile slightly banked track with good racing. They just recently started a 360 race series on Friday nights in additon to Golden State Challenge 410 events. The facility is nice and they even have a new scoreboard. Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, The Mystery Spot, and Bonfante Gardens are also fun places to go to while you are in the area.

Placerville Speedways is in the nice little foothill town of Placerville where the fans are really into their drivers and the place is packed every week. The track is a small little 1/4 mile, very high banked red clay, and exciting racing. They have weekly 360 points racing, Civl War 360s, and Golden State Challenge 410 events. I only live 20 minutes from the track so I consider it my home track. If you go make sure you get there by 5 pm because the lines are really long.

Where do you live? There are other good tracks in CA to go to also. I enjoy going to every track because they all have something different to offer. As many tracks as I have been to in CA, I still haven't been to Santa Maria speedway and Perris speedway. I am going to a new track I have never been to in Quincy (Northern California) at the end of June and I am going to Learnerville near Pittsburg, PA.
