In perhaps the worst-kept secret in sprint car racing, USAC announced today that they have signed a three-year deal with Amsoil for "entitlement" (i.e. main) sponsorship of the USAC National and CRA Sprint Series. The interesting part is the contingency bonuses they are paying: $1,000 for the top ten finishers in both series who use Amsoil products.

Is this a good deal, or the case of a sponsor holding a gun to the head of racers?

No different than what Good Year (and Hoosier before) is doing.

Well I guess it depends on your perspective. If you race in the Western States, the top three in points will only be "recognized", who knows what "recognize" means? And to get this fabulous recognition you have to spend $250 (with proof of purchase) on their products. Sounds good if I'm Amsoil !!
