The 2008 Lawrenceburg Nationals featured 57 Midwest Sprint Car Series cars on Saturday October fourth at The Lawrenceburg Speedway. It was the final race in 2008 for the MSCS where Kyle Cummins had already been crowned The 2008 MSCS Champion. With the championship already determined, the 57 drivers were racing for the $10,000 that would go to the winner. The feature field would be made up of 20 cars transferring from 6 heats and 2 B-mains. 4 additional "provisionals" would come from MSCS points (2007) and Lawrenceburg points (2008). The first transfers would come from the six, 10 lap heat races where just the top 2 would transfer to the 40 lap feature. Heat race winners were Jeff Bland Jr., Ricky Williams Jr., Hunter Schuerenberg, Dave Darland, JJ Yeley, and Robert Ballou. The one C-main was won by JR Douglas. The final 8 drivers to race their way in would come in two, 12 lap B-mains. The B-main winners were Daron Clayton and Joshua Clemons. After adding the 4 provisional starters to the tail, the 24 car 40 lap feature field was set. Robert Ballou and 2008 MSCS Rookie of the year Ricky Williams Jr. would be on the front row at the drop of the green flag. The field was packed with some of the biggest stars in Sprint car racing. The youngster Ricky Williams Jr. took his outside front row spot and surged to the lead on lap 1. For the first 17 laps, Williams paced the field and was not having trouble leading the pack. Dave Darland was trying to take the lead away from Williams, when Robert Ballou, the pole sitter, passed both of them and took the lead on lap 18. Ballou led the next 15 laps, and looked like he would take home the big money without anyone giving him a run for it. Rather quietly, Jon Stanbrough, Daron Clayton, and Joss Moffatt were charging to the front after starting near the rear of the field. Stanbrough was clearly closing in on race leader Robert Ballou. Stanbrough shot to the inside of Ballou down the backstretch and took the lead on lap 34. Stanbrough had come to the front, and many thought the race was going to end with Stanbrough winning. Not so fast… The "Madman" Robert Ballou re-took the lead from Stanbrough on Lap 37 and led the final 3 circuits to win the 2008 Lawrenceburg Nationals. It was back-to-back wins for Ballou in the Lawrenceburg Nationals. Rounding out the top 5 were Jon Stanbrough, Dave Darland, Daron Clayton, and Joss Moffatt. Another driver went back- to- back and that was series champion Kyle Cummins. Cummins won the championship in back-to back years in The Midwest Sprint Car Series.
