A bully?????? really? In all my 21years i've never been called that one before! LOL! So I guess from now on I will refer to you as "Mr. Burch". That better big fella? However I'm taking back my previous offer from an earlier thread to give you a hug since you called me a bully. Now I dunno how much time it takes you Lawton boys to get stuff done, but I was helping Lee on his car this weekend and we watched the track all night and walked it at intermission. However we did not bring our screw driver and stab the track..... knew we were forgetting something! LOL! We watched all the way up until the race before us was rolling onto the track to make our adjustments just like we do at any track. Just by walking it at intermission you could tell how hard the track was. Watering it never would have done anything except maybe for one or two laps. You can defend yourself all you want, but it was the same track for everyone. You just missed your a$$ on the setup! It happens. Take your lumps and stop blaming the track! Now call me a bully or whatever you want. I don't care. I promise I've been called worse by better looking! Now go ahead and get the last word in or last post or in your case last ten posts. Night night pumpkin i'm goin to bed!

Thanks for that post....for a while I didn't think anyone heard that one!
The " LANNY LINE UP" is just placing cars back in the pack when they were really side by side. Giving lead cars more of a lead. By the time the line is single file for the re-start you are 5 or more cars back than you were before the restart.
The TEXAS RE-Start.....is double file with the lead car alone out front ! Right?
And this is working at Enid? Right? Right?
Thanks who ever you are....I feel vindicated !
Instead of Texas Re-Start how about these titles:
"OKIE - DO - OVER" "The 5 Lap Shuffel" - unless they have a radio! Then it takes 1 - lap!
" The Edwards Bump n Run" "Bull Pin Backup"
"LS Stop n Stall" etc etc etc.!!!!!!

You said all classes. I was infering to sprint cars, since I said have you ever paid to fix a crashed sprint car. Those restarts work in classes where you can rub all day and not flip, which is not a sprint car.

Your right!
I ment everyone but the open wheels. But I still think its a better show from a fan point of view. Thats why a sprint race A feature usualy starts with folks on their feet in the stands.
But I understand the cost...boy do I understand that!!

YES YES YES Mike almost all tracks use the Texas re-start...... But like I said in an earlier post "when in Rome" Elk, Enid, Amarillo Lubbock, etc. all do. But the catch is, you have to be consistant and inforce where that leader can start.... in the Texas re-start you have a certian point that you can start at and you have a certian point that after the leader starts that the other drivers can start passing, usually there is a tire or something in the middle of 3 and another tire marked coming out of 4you strart in 3 and pass in 4 keeps from having a gaggle pile-up in turn 1.
Enid does a good job when it comes to their re-starts....
|
Thanks Ms Stewart......thanks for posting good useful information. I love it!!
Yes lots of places use a double file re-start. I have stress this fact every since this " LANNY LINE UP" thing got started. It isn't a fair restart.
The problem is that if you are outside of a car and a tad bit back and about to pass on the outside, on a yellow you get scored after that car and must Re-Start behind it. Multiply that scenario with say two sets of cars doing the same ahead of you on the first lap, and you will see that you went from within 3 cars of the lead on the outside, to 6th place behind 5 other cars on the "LANNY LINE UP". re-start.
So you agree the Texas Re-Start is a better way to go, if you had a choice that is?

Mike I agree with the Texas re-start for most classes.... A beginner class I have to say NO to, they need to learn to drive their cars first and trying to teach and explain this to beginers is like trying to teach a group of pre-schoolers to line up and stay in line... they get so excited that they end up running over each other and tearing each other up.
Then the sprint cars also.... I have mixed feelings on.... I have seen some tracks that the drivers do and awesome job on these kinda starts...... and some that end up wheel hopping the driver on the outside of them and really tearing them up..... then you have a pile-up and have to wait for them to be push-started, and lined back up.....These cars carry alot of horsepower.... and are usually driven on the verge of out of control.... takes a very special and talented driver to herd those cars around the track... one error in judgment, or one split second babble and watch out.... they don't need that kinda expense added to the cost of their machines......

Personally, I think the worst idea of all time for re-starts is this cone thing! Who dreamt that deal up? It should be back at the side of the hi-way!!
Used to be very simple, a white stripe in turn 4. When the leader got to the stripe he nailed the gas. If you were in 10th place & saw the green flag wave you were RACING! None of this can't pass until the cone crap!
I guess since WOO used it for their turn 2 re-starts, everyone thought it had to be a great idea. I think it sucks. JMO Jim

I agree I hate the cone thing you get a good bite and take off but you gotta wait till pass the stupid cone so everyone kinda bunches up or spreads out.

Good evening, Thats pretty insightful. I wish we had a better awareness of the over all issues affecting all the various car classes, at LS especially.
I believe a TACKY track for the beginners running 2.3s and starting side by side wouldn't be that difficult to handle and could teach a lot to start up drivers. On that note I do believe that beginning drivers should at least know how to drive a car on the street, ( Legal or otherwise) before being turned lose on a track to race! How about a 10 lap test run with an experienced racer in the same car class before being signed off on? Anyway....there is my Tacky track theory again...right on topic! LOL I do agree that the mini-class do get excited and can't stay lined up to save their lives, bumping, running up, driving in too deep and in general tearing each other up....My solution....tacky track!
Sprints and their drivers can drive as safe or as on the edge as they so chose to do! That is one of the great qualities of this car. But you all ways have the guy who charges up and someone didn't see him and turns down on him...and bang......!!! So double file ( Texas Re-Start) or single file apparently wont matter as far as how much carnage there will be on a re-start....that will be up to the drivers.....not the type of Re-start they have to use......my opinion.....I know we all have one ....LOL !
But I do understand that a single file re-start is safer for that reason and cost the team less because of less potential for contact.
Then again.....a tacky track will help those cars .....on topic.

The cone rule is a guarantee that the lead car will have a half a straight-a way to secure his lead on a re-start. Its a nod from the track to the "preception" that the leader would have been that much farther out front but for the yellow flag!!......yeah...thats my opinion! once again!
and Again it goes back to the track attempting to coddle and accommodate certain car classes and celebrity's within their ranks with arbitrary rules and actions or in-actions that tend to benefit a select few more than the majority of others who are subjected to them.......like not watering the track and let it go dry slick...cause a few compensated tow-ins and paid long haulers prefer it....on topic.
WOO should run what they want to, own officials etc etc.....but their operation shouldn't be what the rest have to contend with simply because the track operators want to accommodate then a few times a year. WOO is no better that any other sanctioning race organization, and there practices shouldn't be seen as tried and true for every class. Besides they have too much corprate control over what the race is all about, and their boardroom decisions rarely reflect real race situations. But then again....it is about the money....dont forget that!
get back to dirt........Double file start.....white line, lead cars start off turn 4, no cone on the "Okie-do-over, passing allowed from the green flag on. If they pile up in turn one and off turn two....they wont do it more than a few nights in a row......they will learn to drive it...or get towed into the poor house....and retire!
Enough of this tip toeing around, afraid to say anything about it.......guys....."and ladies"...say what you mean and ask for what you want......drivers are the talent...the performers, the cars are the instrument that plays that sweet sound of horse-power! Without us.....there is no show! So ask for the green m&m's only, the fresh flowers and chilled spring water in your dressing rooms....! Dam maybe get an agent! LOL

I agree with ya 100%. I think they all started doing that because guys were jumping that were toward the rear on restarts. But if they'd just watch for and penalize those guys it wouldn't be a problem. That's the way it used to be if i remember correctly. Throw the cone away or put it to good use in the pits or give it your local cable guy. The guy holding the rope that's connected to the cone is crazy to. If it wraps around his hand and a car hits it, well, not a pretty picture. Geez, now this leads into safety issues. We've all discussed that on here before though so I won't go there now. I hope everyone enjoys the racing this weekend.

Why is there air??? Ya gotta have somthing to put in the tires. Oh I'm sorry that's off the thread topic.
Mike, what is it you really want to say? Sounds to me that you and your team expected something from lanny. And that was him watering the track at intermissin. That could have been asked of him, but aparently no one from your crew did. I'm sure he would have answered the question if it would have been asked. If the track goes dry then the fact is you didn't prepare the car for it, bottom line.
The moral of the post is "chase the track and race what you brung"!!!! If ya can't keep up then you need to change how you operate. try again and again til you accomplish the goal. Getting on here and bashing folks is doing nothing for you as a racer/owner or fan. Stop with the whining aready and work on the car for the next race. Im' sure you'll do fine.

I have posted what went on and what was " Really" expected by us. You may have to go back and read from the begining to discover it, but its there many times over.
But to humor you.......
#1. We expected it to be watered at intermission, maybe we shouldn't have , but we did because it was the common and historical practice when the track started to dry by intermission! Why is that so hard for folks to grasp, and understand......can you wrap you brain around the concept!!....!!
#2. We expected nothing from Lanny, other than what was normal for Lanny to do. There were no Deals, no request made or inside information from Lanny ...so end that theory!
#3. We were visiting with Lanny at the time the water truck issue was discussed. We did not ask for the track to be watered.....maybe we should have....but there again....we expected it would be watered and had no reason to believe it wouldn't be!
#4. We prepared our cars for the way we thought the track was going to be.....Slightly Tacky and Dry slick by the 10th A Main Lap. it worked....but it was dam hard to keep it going in the traction department and hard to avoid all the ice skaters....!
#5. We chased the track.just like everybody else did. Some did well and and others...well !!!
#6. Changing how one operates wont change how the track was Saturday night! That is the point here.
#7. No one gets bashed unless they Bash first...!! Okay?
#8. No ones Whining !!! It is CALLED A DISCUSSION. Try it sometime, maybe you would enjoy the inter-action and learn something! I know I do!
#9. Hope ta see ya at LCS...maybe not....!!

Yeah...right......you dont have to dodge that dam truck and Lanny's blowing that dam air horn while your accepting your last weeks A feature Trophy in front of the flag stand on the track at intermission!
Did you say......water running into the ground? Like you want a Tacky track to?
It will end when it ends.......There has been some real good stuff on here, and some great information and wisdom from Helen Stewart.....
So......... no....lets not end this till later on........okay? OK !
Hey for fun check out the Thread ( What do Osama n Obama have in common) that is a political thread starting to piss off the Libs.

Excellent try there ol' buddy!
You deal with me all you want, I wont Hide from ya, and you dont bother me one bit, Wev'e conversed before at LS. But lets leave the Race Team and the rest of the sponsors out of this fourm unless they willingly choose to participate. Then they will do so on their own.
What about the topic? You have an opinion sir?
