The much anticipated Winter Nationals at LS Saturday night lost its Halo when the banked oval rubbered up and went slicker than dog pooh by the rather short lived intermission.
Word has it that the water truck leaked out all its water and for unknown reasons couldn't't get refilled in time to sprinkle some of that liquid on a very thirsty track.
The night went on rather quickly as minor pit incidents here and another there delayed proceedings from time to time. Track officials were Johnny on the spot to decide guilt and dispense justice and physically disperse the gathering passers-by.
The seemingly lack of organisation at first soon lend-ed its self to red faced orders being barked by officials in golf carts to get the race going. Most issues on the re-starts were due to out of town cars not having the LS radio receivers and track officials finally went and pulled the chalk board out of storage and got some races going again.
It was a heartbreak to see the Track rubber up as fast as it did. The dry cap went as black as new asphalt and was so shiny light reflected off it. The cushion was there for a while, but got used up and dried out and rubbered up to.
The fast cars were there tonight, there in abundance ,but couldn't't make the magic happen. Few could find traction and turns were getting lower and slower as each lap of every race went by. There were so many spins in the Mod-A that I got bored and went over to watch an argument between drivers of the previous race. They finally got some traction and split when the law showed up.
The OUT LAW SUPER Spirits were no better. Their A main was slow as well. They were spinning and went red at least once, but no crashes, it was all spinning out on the Black Ice.
The officials were feeling the pressure as they rushed to clear the track after each spin, and get re-started. It got to a point that the yellow flags never left the Flagman's hand.
Thank God for letting the wind blow that dust away from the stands. That was the highlight of the night actually.
Some bad calls were made as well as some good ones, as usual, depending on which side of the fence you were on. Any objection to officials ended with I was in the bathroom, didn't see that particular incident. Funny, I didn't think they all went to the potty together at the same time!
Special rules were made for the event and shortly afterwards were broken and soon done away with but half of the drivers didn't get the memo and continued to play by rules given to then on arrival while others did not. That confused a lot of teams.
I'm sorry to have to say that I was disappointed tonight. The speedy and race ready track that has been the Hallmark of LS, especially for Winter Nationals just didn't happen tonight.

Who was arguing tonight at the ice Skating Rink Last night it was Seller ( Little ) Pointing a fist and charging out to make sure Bloomquist knew he was a big bad mad little boy showing his age and all ... So who were the whiners you saw? I am just curious not that it matters

The ice rink was a great description. From all the fussing and fighting, you could have called it a hockey game instead of Racing. Maybe Lanny should look into fielding a Hockey Team in the winter months. He has the perfect facility for it. LOL

I've been going to Lawton since I was born 40 years ago. Saturday night was the best I've seen in years in terms of a positive feel. Dry tracks seem to be the norm now and then. Holding those cars down sooooo close to the bottom there and keeping momentum was an art form. It was a good show.

i guess you didnt feel the wind blowing as hard as it did all night - otherwise you wouldnt be so quick to blast away at the track for it. not much they coulda done about it - on the 2nd night of a 2 day show and the wind blowing that hard. where i start to agree with you is on nights where it is humid and not windy - and there has been rain all week - and it still gets like that. had that happened - i would be just as critical.
but under the circumstances - i dont think anyone deserves any blame. thats outdoor dirt track racing i think. yeah i woulda liked to see a better race too. but it wasnt that bad. those guys still drove their asses off and i enjoyed watching it. good weekend of racing. friday was awesome. tonight was just ok. wind played hell with my sinus's all night tho. that did kind of suck. maybe we should blame lanny for that too?
i'll be damned - me kind of defending lanny, who'd a thunk it?
btw congrats to all the winners tonight - they earned em. it sure wasnt a gas her and go type of track - they had to work for it. one lil mistake and no tellin how many cars got by. i was happy to hear the positive feedback from many fans on how many cars they had. i wasnt even disappointed int he supers - hell okc got down to 18. 12 for lawton - makes sense. the rest may have planned other stuff and lookin to race SFS next weekend. i thought it was a good weekend. i mean - for once - i really dont have any complaints.

Wow! it's been so long since you popped your little head up! How you been...."DUDE" ! Its been what an hour since you hunted me down to disagree with me?
I grew up at this Track and DB. I have seen this track in various configurations and conditions and driven everyone of them and know very well how tracks are prepared.
The humidity, Temp, and wind speed can play rolls in track drying, but not in those temps and conditions last night. At best it was a minor factor. The major factor was the moisture in the track, the water balance between firm saturation and sloppy, from wet tacky to dry capped, the latter of which prohibits the migration of deep moisture coming to the surface.
The track needed more water before the race than it got. There was ample opportunity at intermission to drop a few gallons on it, but intermission was cut short due to the " NEED" to quickly run the races ! So that Lanny can shut it all down at 11 or 12 before the City of Lawton yells noise nuisance.
No one is blaming cars or drivers for track conditions! Where did you pull that one out from?
Lanny has stopped races for the ASCS and poured water on every line at least two water tank laps. Then had his push trucks and the water truck pack the track before starting the A Main for ASCS. It makes for fast and safer racing all around.
It has been a long time since I saw and felt such a hard dry cap on LS.
If you like the track that way, then you were in heaven. From a fan view point the Supers just weren't able to put on that wild fast show they are famous for, nor were the Mods. Hell the Stanley and Dunn show was slip sliding away every lap. Tell Dunn the track was in good shape! Tell Jeff Bevielle how great it was! Or try Daniel Cox he will tell you the facts on tracks. Careful,,,but tell Sellers and Little Sellers they had a fast track!
The cushion went away there was no traction, every line was slippery, everything has to slow down to keep from spinning. Drivers dove to the bottom and slowed down to keep from being passed on every turn. So the pace of every race ; slow or fast, was set by the lead cars. Those cars had to slow down, its that simple.
The responsibility for track conditions falls with the track operators.
I know, the Fans Know, and the Drivers know LS could have done many times better at keeping the Track moisture up. You can blame it on your "WIND" if it helps you find something to disagree with me about.
Since you are only as good as your last mistake, I wonder how word of mouth will play out within the racing world. Will just wait an see.

Yup, your right....
But do you agree or disagree that speeds were down due to track conditions?
I do agree, that the 25 year rut between turn 1 and 2 was strangely absent last night, but her sister started to show up on turn 3.
Agree Hugging the bottom line and keeping RPMs up is a learned skill. But few could gas all the way through a turn and blast out onto the straight-a-way last night. When the cushion went to marbles then dried up where did you find traction?

Check your Thread on " LAWTON'S a CLASS act....or what ever you wrote.
You flopper !
How much do you get for hyping?
By the way.......We can complain about Lawton all we want , it's our Home Town Track.
But you sir, Said our Track " SUCKED" in April and that " YOUR Track in Texas had more cars in the pits than Lawton Had in the Stands! It don't matter if Lanny owns both!
You were so worried about the Texas cars and drivers not being up here with you! What's wrong with Okie Drivers? They not good enough for ya? Then you stormed off touting " I'm going to take my toys and go play at DB next Saturday"!
Your Thread Read " WHAT FREAKING' ( Short for F---) HAPPENED IN LAWTON" or something like that. Dear reader check it for yourself. That don't sound like you thought Lanny was God of Dirt then!
You can "LMMFAO" all you want, all your gonna get is a prescription for ' No Ass-a-tall' pills.
It was slippery slow racing............That is a fact!
Your boss knew it to, other wise you wouldn't be on here trying to stir it up in his favour!
Obviously you get coddled at Lanny Tracks and don't like being told to walk the line like everyone else at Lake Country, or Meeker.
Don't insult us with your scripted remarks. We saw it.....no matter how much you Spin the Facts.

You know I was never a big fan of dry tracks but after making trips up to 81 Speedway in KS. and Batesville Speedway I've changed my mine. Track conditions were as dry if not drier than last night at Lawton and those guys never missed a beat. The lap times were two seconds slower than when the track was tacky. So I agree 20stewart it's all about the driver. Speaking of class acts that 81 Speedway has a damn good program. They treat every class with respect and even interview the A main winners after the race. I was lucky enough to be there when they ran all three mod classes and the rookie class put on a show as good as lawton did this weekend. Batesville, Well went up to watch the Latemodels Topless 100 and man they put on a good show on a track that was 10 times drier than last night with no cushion for a 100 laps and yes they were passing each other. You say the track was slow how bout the 03 sprint and the 44 mod both came from the back and both were running on the top so it's not like it was a one lane track it was about having the balls to run on top going for broke no matter where finished. Nor was I a fan of Slippery Dry Tracks. Still not a fan of them.
You folks are allowing yourselves to be mislead by some hot head stubborn pit geniuses.
I repeat............I have not discredited any DRIVER or TEAM in this thread. They all drove to the extreme limits that the track would allow! My issue was and is only the SLICK TRACK at LS on Saturday Night Winter Nationals. Stop listening to the spin and read what I said.
It wasn;t about drivers who did well or not and whether LS should keep it drier to teach others how to drive on other tracks that were less maintained or otherwise.
The TOPIC was how D R Y and S L I C K Lawton got for the winter nationals. NOT about who has the driest track or who drives best on Dry Slick Tracks, or who is stupid, or who don't know what they are talking about, or who likes Lanny or who dosn't. It was about a very Slick Track Saturday Night at LS.........geech!!
You are very correct 81 Speedway has a lot to teach Lanny.
You also made my point, though I don't think you meant to. Dry Tracks are slower than tacky ones are. May I quote you here " 2 seconds a lap slower at 81Speedway.
You may have seen may tracks drier than Lawton's last night, but that wasn't the discussion topic. It was simply a statment about how dry and slick LS was for the winter nationals.
One of the topics I raised or ment to raise was that Lawton Speedway has an excellent reputation for track maintenance. And that last night that reputation was not lived up to !!! Okay ? Okay!
Most of the regular teams and drivers were set up for a heavy track as usual. I'm sure a lot of other teams and drivers were prepared for a tackier track than they faced last night. Few were prepared for it to rubber up so quick, so early. Can you liver with that statement?
Don't take everything someone says as an attack on you or a driver. Racers should be a little more thick skinned than that.
I'm sure that had conditions been prepared for that less spinning and race delays would have occurred. And allow me say I am blaming the track here not the DRIVERS !!
After racing my four wheeler slipped around on the track. I stepped off and walked on it. Believe me it was SLICK as a greasy polished garage concrete floor.
LS usually doesn't rubber up or start to dry out till the Factory Stock A features are over. By the time the Champs are done there is one line rubbered and slick as hell, but most drivers kick it out on the cushion and drive like mad men, and mean they are F A S T !!!! But last night no one found any grip to get to and sustain the speeds that the Fans came to see. That my fellow racers was a Track issue not a driver issue, Got it? Get it ? Good !

Get it ? Good !

I agree on track conditions not being good but when the cars came off the track after packing and hot laps and noticed there was little mud on them should have been a signal that the track was going to be bad. How bad nobody knew but its always been a guessing game.

Towards the end of the Super feature the track was starting to open up for us. The bottom was basically gone and the top was taking a little bit of rubber. If we would have had 10 more laps you would have seen a lot of moves made IMO because the top was starting to come in better. As a driver I didn't talk to one other sprint driver that didn't enjoy the track. At OKC the last 2 months all we have had are tacky tracks, so the slick was nice for a change.

I've been going to Lawton since I was born 40 years ago. Saturday night was the best I've seen in years in terms of a positive feel. Dry tracks seem to be the norm now and then. Holding those cars down sooooo close to the bottom there and keeping momentum was an art form. It was a good show.

dude you really are paranoid. it aint a matter of disagreeing with you. keep outdoing yourself.
but yeah i think the wind and it being the 2nd night they ran on it contributed to it a lot. jmo.
good god if it makes you feel any better - i agree with the rest of what you have to say.
but glad to see you'll still stoop to all sorts of BULLSHIT to discredit peoples opinions. sorry i shouldnt say that - i wouldnt want you to stop thinkin that everyone's purpose here is to disagree with you.
funny you tell barrera to stick to the topic at hand - the same thing you couldnt do in the screen names thread. i'm sure you'll ignore that and counter by changing the subject again too.
