Man, I just got into podcasts.  Yeah I'm on the road a lit driving for my career and I always had Sirius for talk radio. Seems I always ended up listening to politics and that just got me angry so I cancelled my Sirius when my little Sister told me I should try podcasts instead. Of course I went to Open Red first and immediately searched for the interview I had heard the most about....the Karl Kinser episode!  WHAT A GEM THAT IS!  It's certainly a must listen for any sprint car fan, especially those of us that were around to see him and Steve in their primes.....soooo much insight into those times and the evolution of sprint cars to what they are today....all in classic Karl storytelling.     It was an hour or so of my life well spent listening too.

"God and Moses together in a sidecar can't drive a sprint car with 1000 horsepower", Karl Kinser.

Not a podcast, but there is a series of videos by the History Mistery Man on YouTube called "Catching up with racing legend Karl Kinser, with the History Mistery Man" that is pretty interesting.  It's 3 parts, but pretty pretty cool to see his shop and cars that he works on.  Mark even shows up in one of the parts.    Part 1 is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD0cT0cftBo

When he told the story about him running full sprint into the "pond" at Knoxville, i laughed my ass off.

A few others you might enjoy to kill the miles.

Dinner with Racers (Alan Kulwicki episodes are really really good....most everything else is good)
Dirty Mo's Dale Junior Download
Dirty Mo's Door Bumper Clear
Mark Martin's podcast

That should be enough to keep you entertained until summer at least.

For certain!  I was picturing him doing that!  Easiest interview those guys had, just ask a question every once in awhile and let Karl roll!

I'll have to check them out. Not racing related, but I've certainly enjoyed Mike Rowes The way I heard it podcasts as well.

Mike Rowe's podcast is "The Way I Heard It" and it is good.    It's short form so it is perfect for that 10-15 miute drive.....some of those Dinner with Racers podcasts are over 2 hours.

Karl is a hoot. I can attest to the fact that the guy was all business at the racetrack along with Steve. The thing that always amazed me about the 2 of them was there seemingly lack of communication. Karl would always be out looking at the track as was Steve. Hot laps karl would sometimes stay at the trailer. Before his timed run karl would go up and take a look at the track and make some final adjustments. The 2 of them were unbelievable together. We may call Steve the king, which he deserves, but I think Karl was the best at reading a race track in his days on tour. That Indiana farm boy sure knew how to read dirt.

Steve would go out and hot lap, come in looking angry as hell and bitching. Karl would bitch back, they'd set fast time.

they don't do it like that anymore!

I always reckoned Jack Harvey was modelled on Kark Kinser.
