Good question. I always wondered about that myself since it takes them about 90 seconds after the checker to make it "official" .
If one car was using rocket fuel in the feature and the rest were using methanol, would the rocket fuel guy ever get caught ?
"If ya ain't cheatin', ya ain't tryin" I've heard in regards to every time there ever was a something considered a race.

Knoxville techs engines at nationals, weekly check cubic inch at times. They check tires of every car every week. Most non legal tires was because a traveler did not know what was legal as a track 2hrs away has different LR tire rules. We got nailed twice over alot of years. Once they changed compound on LR over winter. We had a tire from last year and never looked at it. Another time really pissed us off, tire guy who we have bought tires off of for years gave us a not legal RR. Why check numbers, never had problems before. Very little if none checking for nitro. Guy passed away and no one else knows how to do it I guess. It is difficult for tracks to go all over engines. Got to have a knowlegable person to do it, it is late at night when races are over and engines are dirty and you do not want dirt inside a engine.

If he's using a lot of it, yes. When you line up for the restart behind the chemist, your eyes start to water.
