I’m looking at purchasing one of the all access monthly subscriptions on one of the PPV web services and i’m not sure which one is the best bang for the buck.  The choices I’m looking at are Speed Shift TV, Dirtvision and Racinboys.  All are about the same price so it comes down to overall content.  SSTV is hosting most of the All Stars, Port Royal, Lincoln and Kokomo races with others sprinkled in.  According to what I’ve read on the SSTV site, I can watch as much monthly live content as I want with my subscription and watch on more than one device at a time.  Dirtvision is WoO races only as it appears Knoxville races are still nighltly PPV only.  I haven’t looked too closely at the Racinboys content, but I presume it’ll be a lot of ASCS races. 

I’m leaning towards SSTV but wanted to ask the rest of the sprint car junkies if there’s something I’m missing out there or if there’s problems anyone has had with any of the monthly subscriptions with any of these providers?  I realize the whole monthly subscription thing is pretty new, so any info is helpful.  Thanks in advance!

With the speedshift monthly, we were watching Port Royal, Lincoln and a midget race from OK all at the same time with pc on big screen tv, laptop and tablet. Great coverage. Amazing last lap, last corner pass for the win at Port Royal! I'm sure it was more exciting at the track but sitting out in 48 degree weather with 20mph winds isn't on my agenda any longer.

It really depends on what you like. I’m a WoO guy so I’ll watch that. If you like Central Pa and Ohio Racing a lot then SpeedShift sounds pretty cool. I might check that out for the month of June for Ohio Speedweeks.

I am from Central Pa, Knoxville and the Outlaws are what we like.  There is not a track anywhere like Knoxville, it is simply the best of the best.   I like the 410's around here and they are exciting.   My son likes Donny Schatz and I like Davey Heskin.  I used to go more often around PA until we lost a driver/owner to cancer.  I like going to the Grove, Lincoln, and Selinsgrove every once in a while, just not everyweek.  

I guess what I am saying is bring on Dirtvision!

It seems it depends on your flavor:

Dirtvision is exclusive to WoO sprint and WoO late model/Knoxville info to come

Floracing exclusive to all-things USAC

racingboys is exclusive to ASCS

Speedshift is quite diversed between all-things not mentioned above sprints, midgets modifieds and late models

I know probably not your cup of tea but

IMCA.TV exclusive to all-things IMCA be it modified, late model or 305's

dirtondirt is exclusive to all-things late models

racindirt exclusive to USMTS (United States Modified Tour Series)

Think for diversity it would be speedshift but, as mentioned, depends on your flavor.

Any chance any of you guys know how to play any of those PPV services on a Roku Smart TV ?

Like David Smith said, totally depends on what kind of racing you prefer....wings /wingless? Allstars/WoO/locals?

Pretty much spot on. Being a WoO fan I subscribe to dirtvision. I'm an All Star fan also but I am able to go to a majority of their races here in Ohio so there is no real point for me subscribing to watch them when I will probably attend a majority of the races. Granted yes, it is tempting having a lot of content with Speed Shift you can see a lot of different tracks if that is your cup of tea.

I can say that the coverage and the production has been real good as far as dirtvision is concerned. I have not ran into issues but on some of the facebook groups I am a part of some people complain that they experience problems. I think that may have to do with internet speed or your computer in general. I used to be able to use my old computer up until this year but it started freezing as well but I think its more of that my computer is on its last leg. Switched to my phone and had no issue.

They're not available on Roku.  The only racing PPV channel that has made a Roku App available is Lucas Oil Racing TV.  I had that one for a couple seasons and there is some 360 and Late Model with off road and asphalt racing mixed in.  I wasn't very excited by their content and long waits between dirt races so I dropped it this year.

Some have been able to cast PPV to their TVs or in my case when I bought my wife a new laptop I got one with HDMI out.  This month I've got Dirtvision and I stream on the laptop and plug HDMI into TV and switch the display to the 55" Roku TV.  That works for all PPV services and gives me a great picture.  My laptop is a System 76 purpose built for Linux but you could do the same in Windows or Mac.  All of the connection options are dependent on your individual setup.

I have known Barry from IMCA TV for about 15 years and used to do some driver interviews for one of his podcast channels so I have gotten some insight on running a PPV channel.  He explained that setting up a Roku App costs more than most of the racing PPV competitors can justify.  He says the competition is intense in the streaming.business.

That has been my experience with PPV.  I resisted it for a long time because I'd always have buffering and the broadcasts dropping in the middle of big races.  I cut the cord a few years ago and have the two TVs hard wired by Ethernet to the router and stream all of our TV.  I know my connection is solid because we stream but the racing PPV would still be problematic.  Now I get PPV while the snow is still.on the ground then go to races during the season and back to a month or two of PPV in the fall. .

Speedshift Tv was well worth the money this weekend. As stated, 3 different tracks Saturday,  and last nights midget feature was awesome!

POWRI midgets are terrific!.... especially at little bullrings like Belle Claire

Floracing which is all USAC events and a lot of Superdirt stuff has a Roku app that has been good so far if you're looking for a Roku app. 

Speaking of PPV has anyone heard any rumblings as to the Knoxville pricing?  Ala carte (per race) is doable at $20 per weekly show a couple nights early in the season but I wouldn't pay anymore than that and obviously can't do single nights for a whole month as that would work out to $80.  Asking because I was putting together a tentative schedule between helping the neighbor and a few events I want to make a point to see.  It looks like I won't have anything going on until the middle of May so another month of all Knoxville is a possibility if I can get the price point past my accountant (aka my wife the bill payer).  If they offer something similar to the $40 WoO deal I would do that from mid April to mid May.
