Another weekend of career best performances highlights Watsonville/Hanford double header for Kyle Offill

By Gary Thomas

Hanford, CA – June 19, 2018…Kyle Offill and Team KO Racing headed for a double header outing this past weekend and proceeded to turn in a career best result at Ocean Speedway on Friday, followed by the youngster’s best finish yet with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday.

Offill has continued to get more comfortable and gel with new crew Trevor Green as the weeks have gone on. He opened last Friday’s event at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway by qualifying ninth out of 20-cars and then finished sixth in his heat race. The 17-year-old started from the fifth row in the feature and hung steady early on, before moving his way up to the top-five.

When the leaders got together late in the race it moved him up to third, where he eventually finished at the checkered flag. “It felt really good to get my first podium at Ocean Speedway on Friday with the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo,” Offill said. “Trevor Green gave me a great car in the feature and I am definitely happy with the progress we are making as a team. I can’t thank my family and all our sponsors enough for the opportunity.”

On Saturday the team made the trek south to Hanford’s Keller Auto Speedway for the sixth race of the season with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards. A stout 43-car field was on hand at the event and Offill timed-in third quickest with his heat race group behind Australian traveler Matt Dumesny and Willie Croft.

The Tracy, CA driver started from the front row in his heat race and dropped back early, but made an impressive move with a few laps left to pass 10-time Civil War champ Andy Forsberg for third and nearly get by multi-time Nor-Cal titlist Sean Becker for second. The third-place finish in his heat gave him the 12th starting spot in the feature. Offill stuck around the top-10 for the duration and after a hard fought 30-laps came home with a career best Sprint Car Challenge Tour finish of ninth.

“Our night in Hanford capped off a successful weekend for us,” commented Offill. “To get a top-10 in my first ever start at Keller Auto Speedway was pretty awesome and for it to be my best finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour was icing on the cake. That was certainly the widest track we’ve raced on in California and it was a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to hitting Calistoga Speedway this weekend and hope to keep improving every step of the way.”

This Saturday’s Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster event will be Offill’s second career start on the famed Calistoga Speedway half-mile. Last June he transferred out of his heat race to put it in the show during his inaugural outing at the Napa County Fairgrounds venue.

Kyle Offill Racing would like to thank Country Builders Construction, Ochoco West, Boise Cascade, Reliable Lumber, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, B&S Hacienda Auto Body, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bacchetti Hay Service, Offill Family Farms, Octane Ink, HRP and T-Mac Motorsports for their support this season.
