Years ago Open Wheel magazine had an issue previous to the start of the season, with an article that listed the drivers, car number, car owner, chassis builder, and engines for all the top teams in the country that they had data on. In one of those issues, the article listed Doug Wolfgang ??????????????. An article in an issue about a month in to the season, stated that when it was announced what Wolfgang was doing, there were some "giggles" among some of the top teams. The car was built by Wolfgang, car number unknown, the owner was a complete unknown, a crew chief and mechanic who hadn't done much for a year or so were at the helm, and a small out of the way engine builder from Tipton, Mo would be building the engines. The article goes on to say that all the giggling stopped, when Wolfgang drove under Kinser and Swindell on the last lap in turn one, and drove away for the first feature win of the year in Florida. The team seldom looked back after that night. The year....1989, the car.....8D dp Motorsports built by Wolfgang at Schnee Chassis, car owner Danny Peace, crew chief Duece Terrill with mechanic Robert Hubbard, and engines built by JOHN SINGER. RIP JOHN SINGER, among your many accomplishments you built the engines for what very well may have been the all time best single season for a sprint car team, ever.
