To whom may be interested in RacinBoys coverage of Chili Bowl stay away!!!

Here is what I experienced. To start off my mom is in ICU on a breathing tube fighting like she always does! She's not a quitter by no meansSmile I've been here in the ICU with her for 9 days now;( 22 hours a day. I go home long enough to shower and grab dinner when my sister stops in at night.Any body that can send a great Prayer I'd appreciate it.

So last night when I went home to shower I grabbed my laptop. I thought I would order the RacinBoys Chili Bowl coverage just so I had something to keep me occupiedSmile 2 days ago I figured out if I wanted to race with the All Star Sptint series next year it would be 22,633 miles of traveling from my shop in Mexico , New YorkSmile I can only dreamSmile I got a stacker and can get new cars anybody want to supply engines?Smile
Let's go racing and have fun!

So last night when I got back to hospital I watched Lucas Oil Tv sprint car race from Nov. This morning I sent RacingBoys this email:

"To whom it may concern, My name is David from Watertown,NY. Here is my question. My mom is in icu and I'm staying here around the clock. I have my computer here using the wifi. Before I order how can I tell if the connection will be good enough not to freeze up and buffer all the time? Thank you for your timeSmile David"

David,

Do a speed test at www.spedtest.net.   If your download speed is no less than 5 mbps, you should be able to view the stream with no issues

IThank you and best wishes to your mom.   You are in our prayers.

So I went to the site and was I ever greeted with a surprise!!! Alarms started going off!! Bells ringing!  You have been detected of a virus from the site your trying access. Don't not shut your computer off or you may lose information and files on your computerfrown call the number on your screen immediately!

So after hitting buttons trying to get the screen to go away to no avail I called! I was leery it was a scam. So After 5 mins I figured I was talking to Microsoft. She said when I accessed the site it gave me a virus and locked up the computer. So $300 and an hour later G they had to go in and remove viruses that it sent . I just don't want this to possibly happen to someone else. There went my fund to order the race. Oh well long as mom hangs in that's more important than any race. Hope all racers have a safe night!Smile

I'd check to see where your money went.  I think you got scammed and it had nothing to do with racinboys.  I've had that screen come up, did the same thing, and called the number.  I felt I was being scammed and just flat out hung up and proceeded to shut my computer and hope for the best.  I opened it to turn on and it was fine.  I figured I had nothing to lose as I back up my computer and I pay no more than 300 for my computers anyway.  If you feel you were wronged, fine but I am guessing that you were not.  If racinboys had a problem such as this, this forum would be smoking from all the posts about it.  Sorry it happended to you

The money went to Microsoft. The computer was looked up. I've had it lock up before but could always shut it down or control ,alt, delete. This computer has all the information from my shock dynoing and spring rating on for my customers. Microsoft gave me the option of $299 for 5 years or $799 for lifetime to remove virus and install a virus protection. I went to the link they gave me and it locked up my computer with a virus. If I give you a link to go to and you get a virus and your computer locks up wouldn't you blame me? Like I said my mom is the most important thing then my customers. So I felt if I disconnected from the internet it was connected to at the hospital and it lost info then what? The sad part was I contacted RacinBoys after the problem was solved and they couldn't take the time to reply back. How would you feel?

Dude, sorry, you got scammed. Just Google "will Microsoft charge me $300 to remove a virus". First link is Microsoft's official forum. Hopefully you can stop payment still.

Puck,

The only way they would remove it was to put Norton Antivirus on it. I was given the choice of $299 for 5 years and $799 for lifetime.  So if I send you a link and you get s virus and your computer locks up would you be mad at me?

First off I'm very sorry to hear about your mom.  Second I can assure you that money did not go to Microsoft.  That is one of the biggest scams right now.  The first thing you should do is contact your bank or credit card company and see if they can help you, I knew of a guy in a similar situation who it ended up costing him $10,000 and last I heard he had gotten all but about $1,000 back but they weren't done yet.  I'm not sure how computer savy you are but the best thing you can do now is disable the internet connection backup what you really need and wipe the computer out.  If you're not comfortable with this take the computer to a reputible computer shop and tell them what happened and let them take care of it.  Basically you want everything off of that computer because they probably still have access to it.

In the future for you or anybody else reading this if you get a popup that seems to lock your computer up just hold control, shift and hit the escape button, this will launch the task manager and in there find the program and hit end task.  I have had this popup before and this was all I did.  Once you call them and allow them access into your computer, that is when they will install the malware.

What I advise when you suspect something isn't right is to ask for a number where you can get back to them, if they won't give you a number or try to talk you out of it, there's the first red flag.  Then I would find the number for Microsoft, or whoever they're claiming to be online, and call them.  Tell them about the phone call and they will most likely tell you it's a scam.

As far as what caused it.  It probably had nothing to do with racingboys.  More than likely there was some malware on your computer that redirected you to that site.

Funny story, one day my son received a call like this and gave me the phone.  The guy tells me he's someone from Microsoft.  I cut him off and say "This should be good".  He then goes on how I have all kinds of viruses on my computer and I need to go to this website to see them all.  I said "Wow that's interesting because I don't even have a computer."  He then says "Oh, I'm so sorry to bother you have a good day."  I said "You called me for a reason", he tries telling me it's a mistake and I keep asking him what the error is that he called me.  Finally he says to me "Sir the error is you're a fucker".  We go back and forth for a bit before he starts laughing and says "Sir I don't mean to upset you."  I thanked him for the laugh wished him luck on scamming other people and then asked for a number to get back to him and he says "No I don't think you need my number have a good day."

I work it IT, and use speedtest.net every single day. There are banner ads on Speedtest, but utilizing the website itself will not give you a virus. Clicking on the banner ads most definitely will. The fact that you got scammed by a banner ad on speedtest.net IS NOT A NEGATIVE REFLECTION ON RACIN BOYS AT ALL. I want to make that clear if anyone is blaming Racin' Boys for this guy getting scammed. Racin' Boys is very good at what they do, and very reliable. They aren't out to give you viruses.

If you had viruses come up because of your time on speedtest.net, you either clicked on all the banner ads, or you already had a virus.

Also, Microsoft doesn't charge you to remove viruses, and they don't refer you to Norton if you've got one. You got scammed.

If you look at the link it's spedtest.net not speed test... guessing there in lies the issue.

You were scammed.  The sooner you realize this, the better.  Try to get your money back.  I told you before that this happened to me, and I went through all what you did.  I realized it was a scam as what the guy supposedly from Microsoft was telling me, did not make sense.  I hung up and closed computer.  That shut it off.  No harm, no foul.  I ran my computers virus/malware detector and it found nothing.  It was just a freeze screen (for lack of a better term) and it was gone when I opened it back up. But you WERE scammed

Dakota,

im not sure if you miss what was said or not in my original post. The link that they sent me was NOT speedtest.net !! They sent me spedtest.net.  . I just clicked on the link RacinBoys tech sent me. When I did that's when computer locked up. What's probably as much disturbing is I've sent multiple e mails to RacinBoys since then and have recieved NO response back. I'm not saying they did this on purpose but they definitely caused the problem. Good companies address their mistakes and try to help the customer with a solution .

I work in IT. You have been Scammed, I would call credit card compmany and dispute the charges.
We see this scam every day in my computer shop.

NEVER CALL any number that pops up on your computer,  If "Microsoft" calls you and tells you your comnputer is infected, tell them you do not have a computer and hang up.

I have personally seen these scammer suck $6,200 out of someone bank account becasue the little old lady let them log in and gave them her banking info.

If anyone on here every suspects a computer problem feel free to call our office. We will always point you in the right direction.

That is one of the oldest scams in the book. A sure fire way to tell is to check the pricing for norton antivirus, they do not charge for a 5 year plan or lifetime plan that I know of. Also, chances are that you have a smartphone, google the the microsoft tech support phone number before calling the number on your computer screen.

Best one to date is I had a similar screen pop up, so I decided to have fun with it and called the number, a foreign sounding man answered and said that he was from Microsoft and that my computer shows errors, and I had the thing pop up on a mac, lol.

Contact you bank and let them know what happened, before they suck your account dry.

That is completely not any fault of RacinBoys. I would say if you clicked on the direct link and there was a typo, that was an honest mistake, but with that honest mistake, you should have known the signs to look for, which are pretty obvious in my opinion, as there was only one "E" in speed.

Just do what you can to recover your money, if you gave them a debit card number, cancel and request a new card, as they now have it and will continue to use it, this is how they scam people.

I am deeply sorry to hear about your Mom, I hope everything starts to make a turn for the better!

Sorry to make it worse but the actual coverage last night was absolutely perfect, I never had one instant of buffering and everything was aces, it sure helps have video guys that know what they're doing and they have some of the best inour business, if not the best!

Race fan ,

thank you for your thoughts! Mom is hang in there. I did contact bank and canceled the card. They said they can't stop payment only dispute it. I don't hold much faith in that it's not there money and how much resources will they spend fighting it. I believe it was an honest mistake. But if I make a mistake and cause a problem for someone I'm going to try and help them rectify it. I had a friend decide not to order it because of what happened. I told him not to miss it because of what happened to me. He said he got Dirttrackdigest video this summer and had a video issue. He contacted them they made it right and corrected mistake and more. Like he said if they can't take the time to contact me after them causing this mess who is to say they will contact him if he has a problem after they have his money? I'm glad the coverage was good because not everyone can make it. Pray for safe racing all week.

I think the only honest mistake made was you clicking on their bait.  This has nothing to do with racingboys.  They did not attach the malware to the pop up on your screen.  I cannot see racingboys contacting you as it is not their fix to make.  It was a scam and it caught you.  And, maybe the reason they do not answer your e-mails is because this same scam may be attached to YOUR e-mail.

I clicked on the link that RacinBoys tech sent me and that's what caused the problem.  So am I missing something mad dog? That was my fault for doing something tech instructed me to do?Ok I get it, let's not try and help someone we have greatly inconvienced! I bet that's one of the first things to having a successful product is bad customer care, I don't think so but maybe I'm wrong.

A side note...I always use American Express as a card, when ordering online.  If there is any discrepency(sp) you can call and contest it and they will cancel the charge.

It's a scam. First off, never call the number as your first line of defense. I've had the same issue. Computer locked up. Would not react to a damn thing. Rather than call what appeared to be a bogus number, I shut down the computer. I discovered that when doing that, loading it back up right away did nothing, the message was still there, and still locked up. So, I shut down for fifteen minutes. Turned it back on and everything was fine. I think, the scam "message" hangs for a certain length of time, and if there is no response to the Call Number, it unlocks and moves on to the next unsuspecting customer.  That or the loss of signal from the computer indicates to the scammer that the party is aware of the fact that it's bullshit!  At least that has been my experience.

That was my fault for doing something tech instructed me to do?Ok I get it, let's not try and help someone we have greatly inconvienced! I bet that's one of the first things to having a successful product is bad customer care, I don't think so but maybe I'm wrong.

They accidently gave you a bad link.  Pop up malware is all over the internet.  I hate to say it, but if you didn't have antivirus software installed to block the malware, and weren't savvy enough to know not to call the phone number in the malware when it popped up on your screen and give them your credit card number there is nothing RacinBoys can do.

That sucks, but there were a few steps in the process of you losing your money that were not RacinBoys fault.
