To all you keyboard jockey's that have boldly told us how Schatz has sandbagged in qualifying over all these years I ask you this.  What's your next theory?   (I can't wait for these answers.)

Like I've said over and over, Schatz is the best talent on the tour, which aint saying much, but without Ricky Warner, his  win production would probably be about half of what it is. Just like 2 weeks ago when Ricky missed the set-up and he finished 6th in the B Feature. Why didn't his superior driving ability get him by the also rans and into the feature. These cars are only as good as the set-up that the crew puts on them. PERIOD. I just wish Schatz would have been around in the hey day of the 80's. With his talent, he would have made it tougher on Kinser, Wolfgang, Swindell, Blaney, Davis Jr., and Mark Kinser, but he would have only won a fraction of the races against that talent. Trust me, there's not a man in the field today that could run with any of those guys other than Schatz. He never won a Nationals or a championship until Ricky came along. I'd just like to see him man up and take that wing off and go run the Oval Nationals and what used to be the Pacific Coast Nationals like the big boys used to do. And they won their share of em too. Go ahead and hammer away at me if you want, I've been around racing since the 60's and know talent and lack of when I see it.

My only comment to your post is this.....you picked his finish in the B Feature to make a point.......maybe you haven't been to enough races, but that I wouldn't know for sure. But we have all seen that track that makes even the best look bad. Maybe that was your first. All the drivers you mentioned had a few races exactly like that. Find a better example.

Haha, to each their own, but your opinion reeks of "in my day....." bias.

Schatz is a penis.  That being said, he can drive the wheels off a sprint car-and I'm convinced with some time in a late model seat, he would be pretty damned tough there too.

But to your point on time trial sandbagging:  you're damned right those guys-the good ones-know how to play that game.  Now that the sandbagging has been taken out of the equation, I think you see what we already know-schatz is really f#$%en good, and his car is very fast.

Don't kid yourself if you think that man couldn't add a tenth to his feet if he wanted too though.

Kinser, Sammy and Wolfgang were great. Hell, Sammy and Steve are still pretty damn good but if you're going to make these types of comparisons, you have to acknowledge the fact that those guys had equipment back then that was light years ahead of what most everyone else had. Schatz is dominating in a day and age whenever 30 cars may only be separated by a few tenths of a second in time trials. The cars are so much more equal today and he still does what he does. I think Donny Schatz in his prime will kick ass in ANY era just as Steve, Sammy and Wolfgang would.

I can't wait to see what kind of tin foil hat bullshit these people will cook up next. One things for sure, no one can accuse him of sandbagging now. That little theory has been blown to shreds.

AMEN! Any body that knows anything about sprint car racing surely understands that with the old format you couldn't go out on a regular basis and plan your TT to fit into a window of time that might not exceed 2/10ths of a second in order to garner a front row in the heat inversion. IDIOTS ALL that thought that could be done!

Even if he was talented enough to manipulate tenths & hundredths of a second when he went out for TT's, it'snot like he was going out last every time & knew exactly what time he needed to hit the invert under the old system. The sandbagging theory holds no water. Look at him now, he seems to be still timing around the same spots.

You mean you can't plan a 15.379 for your time trial lap? Come on now, that doesn't sound right! I'm not a fan on Donny or any of the WoO guys really, but it is hard to believe that people could think he can sandbag a perfect TT just to invert to the front. Oh today's world.. ??

Where do you get off calling Schatz a name like that? Do you even know the guy?
