BTW... what ever happened to the Pork Producers?  They used to always be across from the track, not sure I have seen them for a few years.

Sadly Tasos in Knoxville closed, they still have a restaurant in Oskaloosa.  We always liked to hang out at Wackos but it was closed last year.  Mr. C's for breakfast.  Usually one afternoon at the Swamp Fox.  We are talking about grilling at the home where we stay.  Good fresh meat available in the area and one couple is bring along some deer brats.

I had a pretty good tenderloin from the shack just west of the ticket office. They had southern style tenderloin...(cole slaw). Delicious and may be better than the big foot, I love and over consume every year.

Going to the Knoxville Nationals means you absolutely, positively have to get that tenderloin sandwich under the main grandstands...fresh, outstanding

Bianchi Boys is awesome.  It's kind of pricey but that's because they use high quality, fresh ingredients.  Try their salad with the house dressing.

Obviously, Mr. C's is a great choice for breakfast.  Manny's on Pleasant St (the old Hardees) is a great choice for breakfast too.  The Downtown Diner on Main Street (a couple blocks west of the square) has amazing breakfast as well.

Swamp Fox has great food.  On 2nd St, a block north of the square.

If you want a short day trip (12 miles), head to Pleasantville.  Checkerboard has amazing pizza and onion rings.  Plus the Earl Wagner mural is on the east side of the building.  On the west side of the square in Pleasantville is a newer place called Frostys.  Great atmoshpere and even better food.

I had the concession stand tenderloin for the first time in several years back in June.    I don't know when they changed it to an overprocessed square piece of meat,  but it was nowhere near as good as the tenderloin sandwich they used to serve years ago.

I have to disagree speedbump. I actually like the tenderloin they changed to a couple of years ago, which I was thinking was from Northcote meats.

I have pulled off the triple threat in a single night of nachos, tenderloin and chicken bites from the concessions.

Alright, where do we start:

Marion County Cattleman's Association:  steak sandwiches, burgers and sweet corn -- OUTSTANDING!

Hawaiian Chicken Stand

Pork Tenderloin Stand, near ticket office (right next to Winged Nation stage, where each night at 6:00 we will have a live show.....sorry for the shameless plug)

The BBQ stand just up the road by the railroad tracks is outstanding as well.

And, don't forget about the Rotary Club pie sale by the Hall of Fame.......

Those are good starting points..........

Speaking of food and Pleasantville, does anyone remember Shorty's Steak House? Damn good food.

I was disappointed to hear Taso's has closed. I always enjoyed going in there. Very good variety. We used to go in there before it was Taso's, too. I can't remember what it was called, but back in the '80's, they even had a bar in back with an outside entrance that you didn't have to walk through the restaurant.

I know this isn't considered "quality" food, but if you want a good corn dog, if they're set up this year, stop at the corn dog stand on the southeast corner of Rock Island and McKinley (just half a block east of the fairgrounds main gate. Next street behind Dingus'.) They stay open late, and a corn dog goes pretty good with a cold beer at about 2:00 am.

This is a separate trailer stand near the ticket office -it's fresh cut, hand breaded

"I know this isn't considered "quality" food, but if you want a good corn dog".... hmm, wonder why?

"a corn dog goes pretty good with a cold beer at about 2:00 am"... that explains it!
