CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT VENTURA SATURDAY!
(Torrance, CA, July 14, 2015) For the third time in 2015, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series will return to the ocean side Ventura Raceway this Saturday night, July 18th. In addition to the CLS, the VRA Sprint Cars will be in action with a $1,500.00 to win “Battle of the Beach” race. Also racing will be the Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Sport Compacts, Focus Midgets, NMRA ¾ Midgets, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 PM with racing at 5:30.
Kingsburg’s Doug Nunes, who is not a regular with the CLS, won the first race near the beach on April 11th. Two months later on June 6th, current point leader Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita won his fourth main of the 2015 season.
Since the June 6th race, Michnowicz has scored one more win and leads the series with five victories. Nunes, who also has a win at Bakersfield, is the only other driver with more than one win in 2015. Two other drivers, Upland’s Alex Grigoreas and 2010 series champ Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley, have CLS wins this year. Kramer is the latest winner having taken the July 4th main event at Perris Auto Speedway.
Michnowicz, 52, who is seeking his third ever CLS title, has a comfortable 118-point lead over Grigoreas in the championship standings. Fort Irwin’s Jeff Dyer, Dan Hillberg of Placentia and James Heling of San Bernardino round out the top five heading in Saturday’s race.
Chino’s Pat Kelley still leads the Rookie of the Year chase over Jon Robertson of Torrance. Perris driver Don Kuener is third.
