KRAMER WINS JULY 4TH LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR MAIN AT PERRIS!

(Torrance, CA, July 9, 2015)  Before the biggest crowd on the season, 2010 California Lightning Sprint Car champion Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley snapped the three race win streak of Bobby Michnowicz at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night, July 4th.  The win was Kramer’s first of the 2015 season.

Starting on the outside of the second row in the bright orange Layton Kramer tuned Black Rhino/BK Wings/Showtime Motorsports/Christian Stover Foundation/T-Shirts by Timeless/Phillips Pool Supply/Circle Track Performance/Don Guhl Engines/Rob & Natasha Briley #14 in the 20-lap main, Kramer wasted little time in getting to the front.  Going into turn one he chose the high line on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval.  Coming off the second corner he came down off the top and threaded the needle between the two front row starters to take the lead before the halfway point of the first lap.  From that point on the sociable veteran led every inch of the way.

Fort Irwin’s Jeff Dyer was second by the end of the first lap and Michnowicz, who is the points leader, grabbed third early on the second circuit.  Dyer managed to fight off Michnowicz in the battle for second for two laps, but going into turn one on the fourth go around, Michnowicz seized the runner up spot and set his sights on the leader.

For most who have been watching the CLS this year, once Michnowicz took second they figured he would chase down the leader and record his sixth win of the campaign.  However, someone forgot to tell Kramer that as Michnowicz was not getting close enough to challenge for the point position.  At the halfway point, he was a quarter straightaway behind the streaking #14.

Threading their way through the lappers, Michnowicz closed to within three car lengths as they hit turn one for the final time, but as they exited turn two, Kramer flexed the muscle of his car and opened his advantage to about five car lengths.  Nevertheless, it still was not over.  As they entered turn three, a lapped car was in front of the leaders and Michnowicz drove the #12m deep into the turn nearly pulling alongside the race long leader.  Kramer hammered the throttle and pulled the two-time champion off of turn four and took the Kevin Winters’ checkered flag with Michnowicz inches behind.  Upland’s Alex Grigoreas, who passed former teammate Dyer on lap nine for third, stayed in that spot for the duration.  Dyer remained in fourth with second year CLS driver Jeremy Queener of Torrance taking fifth.

Michnowicz out-qualified the 17 car field with a lap of 18.217 on the pleasant summer night.  He and Michnowicz then won the two six-lap heat races.  Michnowicz was the main event “Hard Charger” picking up eight-spots on his drive to second place.

The top ten in points remained virtually unchanged and Michnowicz will take a 125-point lead over Grigoreas when the CLS returns to the track on July 18th at the Ventura Raceway.  Grigoreas has strengthened his hold on second with a 66-marker advantage over Dyer.  Placentia’s Dan Hillberg and San Bernardino’s James Heling, who are separated by 56-points, occupy fourth and fifth.
