USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series

USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CARS INVADE HANFORD SATURDAY

JUNE 24, 2015... This Saturday, June 27th, the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series will battle at the Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds. Promoted by Ron Vander Weerd and Bubby Morse, the Hanford, California oval will host the tenth point race of the season. The action packed card will also showcase the Western RaceSaver 305 Wing Sprints, Mini Stocks, and Stock Cars. The pit gates will open at 2:00pm, the front gates open at 4:30pm, and racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. Saturday’s event will be the 39th West Coast Sprint Car event at the Kings County Fairgrounds. Since March 2009, Ryan Bernal leads all drivers with seven Hanford victories, including the March 28th opener. At press time, veteran racer Peter Murphy holds the 1-lap qualifying track record of 15.290, set on March 13, 2010. A series win list at the Hanford facility is posted at the bottom of this release.

NOTICE TO RACERS: Saturday’s race at Hanford will be run under the USAC West Coast Rule Book and a $35 entry fee will be collected. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed and engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver. Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds has 95db at 100 feet state mandated sound rule and the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.westcoastsprintcars.com and www.usacracing.com.

Heading to Saturday’s event, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, California has an 80-point lead over the competition. Racing Junior Bowman’s #17V Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / SurfnSprint Spike, Faria scored twenty-first at Santa Maria after problems sidelined his machine. To date, the 2013 Champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one high-point driver award, four heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 41 feature laps led. Currently ranked fifth on the series win list, “Hollywood” will be looking to score his eighth victory this Saturday night.

Hollister, California’s Ryan Bernal is second in the chase for the championship. The pilot of the Mike Phulps owned #56 Metal Works / Tri-L Mandarin Ranch ART did not compete in last Saturday’s action at Santa Maria. At press time, the 2011 Rookie of the Year has six feature wins, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, two high-point driver awards, three heat race victories, two DMI / Ultra Shield Race Products Hard Charger Awards, eight top-10 finishes, and 111 feature laps led. At Hanford, Ryan will have his sights on claiming his series leading 27th main event.

Jace Vander Weerd of Visalia, California is third in the point standings. Driving the family owned #88 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Jace finished eighth in the Santa Maria feature. Having a steady season, the former USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has one heat race victory, one Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main Win, and nine top-10 finishes to his credit. Vander Weerd won the inaugural Hanford West Coast Sprint Car race and will be looking for his fifth career triumph.

Stockton, California’s D.J. Johnson is fourth in the USAC West Coast point chase. Piloting the family owned #33 Proplant Farm Services / J. Milano Company Eagle, Johnson scored tenth in last Saturday’s feature after starting fifteenth. Heading to Hanford, the former USAC Western Classic Rookie of the Year has four heat race victories, one DMI / Ultra Shield Race Products Hard Charger Award, six top-10 finishes, and 18 feature laps led on the season. This Saturday, D.J. will have his sights on his claiming his first USAC West Coast victory.

Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia, California is fifth in the championship standings. Racing the family owned #10 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Richard placed fifth at Santa Maria. To date, the 2011 Champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, three heat race victories, one DMI / Ultra Shield Race Products Hard Charger Award, six top-10 finishes, and 36 feature laps led on the year. Vander Weerd will be looking to gain valuable points with Saturday’s feature win at the Kings County Fairgrounds.

Currently sixth in points, Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. California’s Tristan Guardino, Shannon McQueen, and Ryan Timmons, are also in contention.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “Shifter” Landon Hurst, Jeff Sibley, Austin Liggett, Brody Roa, Johnathon Henry, Kevin Barnes, Max Adams, “The Wild Child” Chris Ennis, Tyler Schmidt, and more.

Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds is located at 801 South 10th Avenue in Hanford, California. Adult Reserved Grandstand tickets are $15, Adult General Admission tickets are $12 (with $3 discounts available for Seniors (55+) and Students 6-18).
