Anyone watch Speed this morning. Night one from Skagit Speedway. You could not see the cars coming out of turn 4. I've commented before and I'll say it again. The owner should be ashamed of how this track is prepared. It's like this for the fans week after week. I know the comments. We have rain, we have sun, we have multiple nights of racing. The track was run and managed by several previous owners and it was not like this consistently and they had the same issues.

I'm considering taking samples for testing and see what fans are being ingested with!

I'm going to move my earlier post up to this one. I'm a traditional sprint car guy all the way but I have to say it's how that track has become, not even close to what it was. I would drive all the way across the state for a winged show that was top notched and the track so heavy they had to beat them out with a stick to wheel pack because the cars were a BIG mess after.

Previous post---Love that track. When I was up that way in the 80s I used to drive across that state for the Saturday night show. They also had a great bunch of super mods and late models that ran with them and that track was always heavy and tacky. I never ever saw dust on that track like what I'm seeing on this tape, not even with all three divisions running.

Man you could fish for steelhead during the day while you were camped out at the track. Who could ask for more? Me, take the wings off. LOL

Take the wings off.. Why? you can go to Chico, Watsonville, Petaluma and other places and 90% of the time there is none or very little dust and they are winged shows.. I have been to Skagit for dirt Cup a few times and i had to wear goggles at times.. I like Skagit, it is nice and it's fast but something is wrong it is either the dirt they use or they need a better prep person.. If anyone watched that race on tv and they have never seen a sprint car race before i highly doubt that sprint car racing would have gained any new fans, they probably should not have shown a race like that on tv it did not do justice for the sport... As for non wing i have seen dust at Eldora and you wonder how the driver could see, so in my opinion it is not wing or non wing it's either lousy material that does not retain moisture or poor prep...

That's exactly what I said, that track used to hold up all night long with winged cars, super mods, and late models, all on a Saturday night show.! It was more tacky and heavy than Ascot or Manzy at that time. Must be one or two of you that remember how good that track was. Heck, I never would have drove from Fort Vancouver Washington all the way up there for a winged show unless it was exceptional, and it was! It would not have been as bad with non wing cars but that track is just not what it used to be...period.

You are right about the people watching on TV who are not die hards, it did not make many new fans.

Kenny

I agree that something has to be done with the surface. Dust bowls do not attrack new fans to our sport. I love watching races at the track, but can't stand the dust.

That was a different era. The cars now have so much power and are too hooked up compared to the 'years of before'. Personally - it is better racing when the track slicks off. They get to use the whole track to race and it puts the finish a bit more in the driver hands than their right foot. Dirt never bothered me - I go to Skagit, not Evergreen. :-) David

Hi David, I'm not going to tell you how big the wings were or how many ponies in 85 they were running, the lap times stand for themselfs. Did you see the race that was televised and can you honestly say thats the kind of track surface you like?

Kenny

I've noticed over the years at Outlaw races, most of the tracks they race on are dry slick. It seems to me anyway... It does seem to produce better racing even if it looks like crap with the dust everywhere... Maybe one of the reasons they'd rather have dry slick than heavy is that a heavy track usually has a bunch of ruts causing a lot of crashing. And with the crazy long Outlaw schedule, they need to keep expenses down and that means not having a bunch of guys flipping every night.
