Justin Sanders looks to continue hot streak during Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo round six this Friday at Ocean Speedway
Special entrants set to invade Watsonville this week

By Gary Thomas

Watsonville, CA – May 11, 2015…When it comes to Sprint Car drivers on a roll in Northern California, there are few that can be listed above current Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo point leader Justin Sanders, who will look for his third straight Ocean Speedway victory on Friday.

This Friday’s outing is the fourth consecutive week of racing for the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo, which concludes the most strenuous part of the season. A week off will be seen over Memorial Day weekend, before resuming action with what will be round seven on Friday May 29.

Sanders earned his second consecutive Ocean Sprints win last week in a convincing drive aboard the North County Plastering/ Fire Protection Management No. 17 machine. He then went on to claim victory on Saturday at Marysville Raceway after starting 14th in the A-main at the helm of Rudy Warrington’s No. 18 mount. Sander’s this year has tallied five wins and 14 top-five finishes in his 17-starts throughout Nor Cal. The 22-year-old goes into Friday maintaining a 34-point lead in the standings.

Stockton’s Brad Furr, the 2013 Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo champion, will look for his second win of the season on Friday. The former World of Outlaws regular has set fast time two weeks in a row and scored a fifth place finish in the feature last week. Gilroy’s Kurt Nelson continues to rank third in the standings and is coming off a week that saw him battle for an 11th place finish, even despite frame damage suffered in an early incident during the feature. Rounding out the top-five are the Chisum brother’s, Jason & Jeremy of Salinas. Jeremy last week had one of his best runs of the year in seventh.

Two-time & reigning Ocean Sprints titlist Shane Golobic will be in search of his first win of the year at Ocean Speedway. The Fremont, CA wheel-man has tallied a trio of third place finishes in his four starts with the Taco Bravo 360’s this season. Two-time track champ Tommy Tarlton will also be searching get back atop the ladder on Friday. The Easton, CA native has a pair of wins already in 2015 and has run fourth the last two weeks. Tarlton never seems to stay out of victory lane for very long at the quarter-mile.

Campbell’s Bud Kaeding is set to make his 2015 Ocean Sprints debut this week. The three-time USAC Silver Crown champion has won the last two King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series events and looks to add a Taco Bravo triumph to that string. Kaeding last year won the Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway with KWS and also picked up an Ocean Sprints victory in the familiar Williams Motorsports No. 0 machine.

Auburn’s Andy Forsberg is expected be on hand this Friday night. The seven-time Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster champion claimed last year’s season-finale with the Ocean Sprints and has been very fast in recent starts at the bullring. Scotts Valley’s Evan Suggs is also anticipated to be in the field on Friday. The Scotts Valley native recently claimed a victory in weekly action at the Petaluma Speedway and makes his 2015 Taco Bravo debut this week.

Additional top-10 drivers in the points set to be in action Friday will include Fremont’s Dustin Golobic, who is just four-digits out of the top-five. Hayward’s Danny Malfatti, Gilroy’s Ken Fredenburg and San Jose’s Darrell Taylor. More competitors anticipated for this week include Morgan Hill’s Nicholas Ringo, Laton’s Heath Duinkerken, Fresno’s Koen & Kyler Shaw, Tracy’s Austin Liggett, Corralitos’ Jerry Bonnema, Hollister’s Tony Gualda, Foresthill’s Ryan Robinson, Fremont’s Anthony Espinosa, Morgan Hill’s Nick Ringo Jr. and Salinas, CA’s Josh Chisum.

The front gate at Ocean Speedway will open at 4:30pm this Friday night with hot laps at 5:15pm, qualifying around 6pm and racing to follow. The pit gate will open at 2pm. All seating will be general admission with adult tickets $17, seniors 65 & older $16, children 6-12 $13 and kids five and under free. A family pack featuring two adults and two kids is available for $55.

The Ocean Speedway is located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville, California with the physical address being 2601 East Lake Ave, Watsonville, CA 95076.

Ocean Speedway & the Ocean Sprints would like to thank Taco Bravo, High Five Pizza, Ray Scheidts Electric, Beer Optics, Hoosier Tires West and Kaeding Performance for their support. For more information on the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo log onto www.racepmg.com
