After listening to dirtvision, and realizing just how many nights WoO runs during the season, how much would these guys spend??

Sponsors help I know, but Im guessing you have to have a sugar daddy somewhere to make this work. How many "professional drivers" are there on tour who never have to work a day job at any part of the year?

How many engines does it take to run the year (on average)?

I just can't imagine, as racing wraps up for me this year and the measly pile of money I have spent, just how much it would take to run the 83 events for WoO this year?

I also wonder if the WoO guys have to pay pit passes?? memberships?? entry fees??

Would a million do it?? Truck, trailer, cars, parts, engines, crew help, travel expenses, fuel???

Maybe Daryn Pittman has to actually live in a Titan carport to be able to afford to race 3/4's of the year??

Thats a terrible saying but sad but true thinkin of 83 nights of racing on the road with fuel prices the way they are, engines, cars, tires, engine rebuilds, crew cost, spare cars and parts, food, lodging, haulers, tractors, tools, etc It would scare the hell out of me to see what a Outlaw team spends these days and also what the return is. I sound like a killjoy thinking of the good ol days but life in the racing world and regular world sounded alot more simple and people seemed like they had more fun. These days seems like its all business I just hope people are still having fun.

On a serious note, I would actually like to know also. Obviously it's different for a front running team versus a team that barely makes the feature most nights, but I would love to know what a teams budget looks like. I know there are a lot of secrets kept amongst teams, but can anyone with real knowledge post on this...?

For that matter It would also be nice to know what a top team at Knoxville's estimated budget is, or a top Posse Team...

I remember an artcle in Open Wheel ( that tells you how long ago it was written ) , I believe it was 1999 or 2000... anyway, at that time Sammy said to run the WoO series for one season, starting from scratch, it would take around $750-800,000 IF you had a truck and trailer... if not, he said around 1.2 million. Fuel, motels, pit passes, motors, etc. have all increased since then, so I'm curious too.....


Fenders are like vacuums... they both suck.

Well looking at the payouts listed on the WoO site, if you made the A main but did not finish in the top ten you would HAVE to be loosing money every single night. 800 bucks for 17th on back. 800 bucks times 83 events would be 66 thousand some dollars. Im guessing at least 40,000 for one hard hitting motor (if not more). There goes quite a bit right there.

Knowing what some of the guys spend, you can make money. Like the old saying goes, to make a small fortune, you must spend a large one.

Guys your numbers are in the ballpark. Now you can realize how important sponsors are and the need for you to support the people who are supporting these race teams. If you do not let these companies know both through purchasing their products and also verbally letting them know that you buy their product (as a result of their racing investment) all sponsorship will dry up and you will be left without traveling teams. You need to support all sponsors regardless of what you think of the driver. Remember you cannot run a seris or race with only 1 or 2 cars. Been there, I know this to be true!!

An open wheel trailer is all that is needed to run the series.

An open trailer will (and did) haul the car and a spare.

The reason we see all of the huge haulers is simply to haul the cash needed to continue racing

the 35 team starts out the year with 4 to 5 new cars and spare parts. they have 6 -7 motors. 3 new ones this year.while i am not the one who keeps track of what is spent, take a couple of hundred thousand dollars and double it and and you could be in the ballpark. that is remembering the 35 has no major cash sponsers. they do have sponser help and without it things would be even harder for my boss to run the car so i am not negating what they do, but when it gets right down to it, wright one const. supports the car. now other teams may have more or less available to them but everyone but very few are just trying to get by. so don't let the big rigs and all the parts and stuff fool you into thinking money is no object for most of the teams. it is just what it takes to be able to run the team up and down the road these days. the owners for the most part know what they are getting into when they take the national tour on. for some the budget can change throughout the year and either more or less funds can become available. so the teams do have to be able to have a chance to make some money at some point through the year. that is why i thought this years format for qualifying for the dash was not such a bad idea. i hoped it would give more teams a chance to cycle into the dash and maybe start up front more and have a shot at some good finishes. but i think maybe the fast car in the heat needs to come from the 3rd row instead of the 2nd. JMO.
