Mark Dobmeier – New Beginnings in Vegas!

(Bill W) March 11, 2014 – It was a new beginning for Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Motorsports #13 team.  The partnership came together in the offseason, and the first event for the Grand Forks, North Dakota driver came at The Dirt Track in Las Vegas, Nevada with the World of Outlaws last week.  Wanting to get things sorted out, the team accomplished their goal by gaining speed as the two-night event progressed.

The Outlaw shows took place last Wednesday and Thursday.  “The reason we went to Vegas was to shake everything down,” says Mark.  “We have all new equipment, thanks to Jim and Cindy Senske and Ryan and Jennie Grinde.  We wanted to get things figured out.  On the first night, the driver had a little rust on him and the setup had a little rust on it.  The biggest thing out of the trip was, we made some adjustments and we were fast the second night.  We had a great car.”

Wednesday started with a 21st quick qualifying effort.  “We drew a big pill and didn’t qualify well,” says Mark.  “We were able to move forward out of the heat and make the feature though.”

Starting in row eleven, Mark charged forward until a mechanical issue sidelined him.  “We had moved up a handful of spots,” he says.  “The track was really rough and heavy.  Toward the end, a chunk of mud came up and bent the shifter cable.  The car actually popped out of gear under the yellow and I pulled in.  We tried to fix it, but we didn’t have enough time with the race past the halfway point.”

The team went to work for Thursday’s finale.  “The crew was working hard all day on Thursday,” says Mark.  “We came out with a whole different deal.  We qualified tenth, which was good.”

After finishing second in his heat race, Mark started 13th in the feature.  “We had a really good car,” he says.  “I think we were up to eighth at one time.  Things were going good.  We were getting some yellows at the wrong time, and I rubbed wheels with (Paul) McMahan.  That got us sideways and I lost about five spots in one straightaway.  That really killed the momentum.”

He was happy about the trip.  “Overall, we were really happy,” says Mark.  “The car was really reacting when we were making adjustments.  We had a great car the second night, and racing circumstances really cost us a solid top ten there.”
