Bryon Clauson is scheduled to run 46 winged sprint car events and 48 non-wing events in 2015. He's been moving in this direction for a couple years now.   The article mentioned other star non-wing drivers that have similar plans. Part of the reason is the bigger purses in winged events so once they get very experienced at running wings, and they will take to it quickly, it will make it harder for winged drivers as they will have even more difficult competition to contend with to make feature races.  Oddly, it's pretty much non-wing drivers becoming more diverse.  Not sure if this is good for fans or not.  I'd guess it should be good for fans, but then again, we may lose some winged drivers we've watched for years.  Of course WoO drivers are under fairly strict rules as to when they could run a non-wing race.  Then again the cost of new cars.

There was a fan forum in 2012 or 2013 at Knoxville w/ Brady Bacon and Kyle Larson and both said winged sprint cars were much harder to win in than wingless. Bacon made a point to say while wingless cars may be tougher initially to get used to, it's alot harder to beat the best in winged racing than wingless, mostly to do with there being so many more quality cars.

In last year's forum, Clauson and Bacon were both much more excited to get into a winged ride than a USAC ride, mainly because USAC pays for 5th what the Outlaws pay for 16th ($900). These are/were arguably the 2 best young USAC sprint drivers.

ah in this case the cage was before the wing.

The wing was to help keep the car stay down to the ground,AND absorb speed in the event of a flip ect.

With the traditional sprint car it tends to want to jump up ,and flip more violently then the wing's.

Tallent is one thing, but in a sprint car going in a circle on dirt, wing or no wing,is repetive.

How BRAVE you are can be all the differance you need to be a hero or spending a lot of money.

Next people will be saying there was no tallent in sprint cars in the 50's and 60's.

They didn't like seat belts when they came into racing because it would make men more brave.

First seat belt worn was Joe Chitwood at indy.

Keep it confusing.

I honestly can't follow what the poster was trying to say?

As for tallent,  A  good racer is a good racer. period.  As for Mopar Million and other races at Eldora,  You ever account that Stevie smith and Haud have about 5000 more laps around that track than USAC guys?

You don't see many guys with less than 15 years of winged racing winning WINGED RACES very often and you also don't see cars winning much, that don't have the best of everything on them and also a crew chief with 15+ years.

I can't blame racers for wanting to make more,  however the standard All Star purse isn't any better than USAC and you better be damn good an constistantly run up front or have a great sponsor or your going bankrupt twice as fast.  Motors half the time between rebuilds. 1/3rd more fuel used and its harder on parts running the full tilt all the time.

Haud's been running non wing an has for as long as I can remember when he wasn't locked into a series run,  He ran Eldrora back in the early 90s with the CRA Midwest tour a couple times and I seen him run several four crowns.

I guess it's what you want to do.  I personally feel there is a lot more driver in a NW car.  I've seen rookies go out and flatfoot a track with the wing.  Will they win?  Probably not.   They make more mistakes and whatever equipt they have is probably not equal to what the top of any series has.

I have however seen weekend racers and family teams go out an beat top teams NW,  Not frequently but it does happen.  A good setup and smart driving and you can pass a ton of cars.

BC will make a mark in Winged racing, the same as he's done NW.   He's focused, agressive and had the desire to win.

Good luck BC!

I love it when a poster contradicts themselves on a topic.   However, it is rare that a poster will contradict themselves within one post.   It is almost unheard of that they do it on a thread that they start.   Smile

I guess the one thing that everyone can agree on is that the spring can not come soon enough.

Can't blame a race for wanting to make more money by driving more than one type of car.  Let them try it, hope they succeed, but then just how much money inpurse is available.  Actually, who gives a shiite.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.
