Saturday’s race will be the 4th show in the history of the Honda USAC Western Midget Series at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. Shane Golobic won the inaugural “Soares Classic” and Ronnie Gardner claimed last year’s event. Gardner also scored the 30-lap victory on June 15, 2003 and holds the 1-lap qualifying track record of 14.200, set last October.

Heading to the “Soares Classic,” Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma sits atop the dirt series and is second in the overall points. Piloting Keith Ford’s #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products TCR, Marcham set a new track record and took second in the Lemoore debut on July 26th. To date, last season’s Rookie of the Year has two feature wins, two VanLare Steering Repair Fast Time Awards, one heat race victory, five top-10 finishes, and 29 feature laps led to his credit. Trey will have his sights on extending his point lead by adding a Petaluma feature win to his resume.

Norco’s Ronnie Gardner is second in the dirt points and sits third in the overall standings. Currently, the defending champion has two VanLare Steering Repair Fast Time Awards, five top-10 finishes, and 37 feature laps led on the year. Ronnie will be looking to add a second “Soares Classic” to his win list and gain valuable championship points on Marcham.

Jarid Blondel of Orange ranks third in the dirt points and leads the combined dirt/pavement standings. Driving his #98 G&J Aircraft / Repair Service Edmunds, Blondel scored eleventh in the July 26th main event at Lemoore. With one hard charger award and six top-10 finishes to his credit, Jarid will have his sights on winning his first main event this Saturday night.

After placing thirteenth at Lemoore, Bakersfield’s Shannon McQueen has climbed to fourth in the dirt standings and is seventh in the overall series. Piloting the McQueen Racing #7 Lucas Oil / Simpson Race Products Spike, the 2012 Champion has two top-10 finishes on the season. McQueen will be looking to claim the “Soares Classic” victory and add the winning trophy to her collection.

After earning his second hard charger award at Lemoore, “The Wild Child” Chris Ennis of Bakersfield has moved to fifth in the dirt chase and eighth in the overall points. Racing the family owned #86 Sidewaze Designs / Young’s Commercial Trucking Spike, Ennis charged to eighth in the 30-lap feature after starting sixteenth. Currently, the 2011 Co-Rookie of the Year has one heat race victory and three top-10 finishes in the campaign. Chris will have his sights on a breakthrough victory at Petaluma Speedway.
