Last year at Nationals, Sprint cell service was nonexistant. It always showed we had service but we could never place a call or even send a text. Knoville locals, has anything changed or should we plan on living in the stone age again out there?

no new towers have gone up that I've seen, but I'm not on Sprint, so can't tell you if their service has changed.

Verizon is the go to service for the Knoxville area. Sprint and AT&T have virtually no service anywhere from my own experience. I'd look into getting a throw away phone for the week.

Sprint has never had good coverage in Iowa unless you were on the interstate highways. Central Iowa is a stronghold of US Cellular. I have had decent luck with Verizon.

Thats a bummer to hear. It seemed like before last year we got decent enough service with Sprint. Or maybe that was when we still had Nextel before the switch. I cant remember. Either way, it sounds like we wont get our hopes up for this year.

I switched to Verizon for the simple fact that my ATT service wasnt any good in Knoxville. My friends with Verizon were always happy with their service. My friends with T-Mobile just shut theirs off unless they were in a few select spots in town.

Sprint added 2 new sites in Knoxville late last year as did ATT. Verizon is adding a temporary cell site close to the track this year.

I have Sprint as well. Coverage seemed to be fair away from the track but I did not even bother taking the phone into the track area as coverage was ZERO. Hope it is better this year.

After last year, with zero service in pretty much all of Knoxville, this year I am able to text, make phone calls, even use my phone as a hotspot for my tablet. None of which was available last year. I'd have to say something happened with Sprint because it works fine for me now. I had just gotten the smart phone last year and I rooted it just so I could use it as a hotspot for the tablet, which didn't work ever, at all, last year. This year I can get everything I want. I can even watch Netflix on my phone. I've tried watching it on the tablet, but it buffers too much and my phone doesn't at all. YMMV.

I am a Knoxville resident and Sprint customer for the past 7 years. Last year my service at the racetrack and sometimes at home was non existent. This year I've had flawless data and voice coverage at the racetrack. Sprint has done something right! My contract just ended and July and I am actually considering staying with Sprint! My husband has always been a US Cellular customer and it seems that their coverage has been lacking as of late. At the rate they're going Sprint may actually gain a Knoxville area customer if US Cellular doesn't straighten their stuff out. With all of that being said...I am certaintly no expert but I can say when you get a lot of people in one space (Motley Crue in DSM last week) service tends to get bogged down no matter what company you're with. I suppose we'll see here in a few weeks!
