ASCS Frontier: Lap sponsorship available for Dan Laber Memorial at Billings

RATHDRUM, Idaho - The ASCS Frontier Region sprint car tour will wrap up its 2014 season this September at Billings Motorsports Park with the annual running of the Dan Laber Memorial on Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th. For the first time, lap sponsorships will be sold to create a bonus fund for the drivers.

Andrew Kunas, the PR man and announcer for the series and sprint car fan in general, is spearheading the operation and will handle everything. Every single dollar collected will go to the drivers that weekend. The bonus money will be paid separately from the standard purse.

Both Friday's and Saturday's A-Feature events will be 30 laps instead of the typical 25 the Frontier Region usually runs. Each lap on either night can be bought for $100. Fifty dollars will go to the weekend point fund (the winner of the Dan Laber Memorial is the overall top points scorer for the two nights).

The other $50 will go to the drivers running in the top three on that specific lap; each earning $25, $15 and $10, respectively. If all 30 laps of an A-Feature on either night are sold, a driver who runs in the Top 3 every lap will earn a minimum of $300 and as much as $750 if he or she were to lead every lap.

The more laps that are sold, the more bonus money there will be and going to more drivers. The weekend point fund will be spread out through the field with the intent to get at least a little bit of bonus money to as many drivers as possible.

Former Montana sprint car champion Jerry Brey already stepped forward and bought Lap 1 for both night's A-Features. Prevost Racing and Dietz Auto & Truck Salvage have claimed laps as well. Andrew Kunas will buy a couple of laps as well. Others have expressed interest. It is hoped to get as many Montana-based fans and sponsors involved but anyone anywhere is welcomed to sponsor this recently resurrected event.

If you would like to purchase a lap on either night, please contact Andrew Kunas either at [email protected] or through the ASCS Frontier Region Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ascsfrontier for details. You can buy any specific lap you like as long as it's not already taken. First come, first serve.

Updates will be given as the sponsorships come in and the bonus structure begins to take shape. It will be shown where each dollar is going.

If the need arises B-Feature laps will be sold as well with the same rules applying. They are typically 12 laps in length.

Heat race, main event and other sponsorship opportunities are available as well and interested parties can contact Mr. Kunas for details. Any sponsorship money here will go to the weekend point fund.

The Dan Laber Memorial is run in memory of the driver who lost his life in a racing accident at the old Yellowstone Speedway in 1988. After a long hiatus the event was brought back in 2012 and has since served as the season finale for the Montana-based sprint car series.
