why won't he run SFS on friday.............but has been goin all the way down to Fort Worth to run their local show on saturdays? Seems weird to me considering the amount of fans he had at OKC.

wished I lived down south of OKC.............I'd make the 2-3 hour drive to Cowtown every week. They've had between 25-30 sprints the last 3 shows they've run down there. And man I love that track.

He sold his city motor over the winter and only has ASCS motors and a 410. Cowtown runs ASCS rule motors and its close.

hey I've always rooted for the kid. I think it's disappointing he is runnin that uscs asphalt crap. I mean thats cool he's gaining experience.......but there are no cars..........just Terry Gray. I keep trying to look for a really competitive asphalt series. But I guess they run that b/c otherwise it's off to the extended Northeast. Thanks for the info Greg on the original question. In response I can't at all understand why he would sell the SFS motor.........the kid has an awfully big fan base there. With Aduddell behind him I'm even more suprised he doesn't have a SFS motor. It really appears there is more to it (guess there always is)...........it wouldn't suprise me if his team got sick of Lanny. Almost everybody has........but doesn't have a whole lot of other options. When you have the very good sponsor backing that Trey Robb does.........creates other options. Ah well.........I bet we see him run the Bowl and the sooner region Cowtown show. I'd like to see him get an ascs dirt win. Figures as I'm biased as hell and don't like asphalt at all.

Didn't somone say Robb was gonna run non-wing midgets and sprints in the tri-state area? If so then that would be pretty cool.

I think people in this town or these parts are very disappointed Robb hasn't raced here. He's hardly ran any ascs shows in the state. There was so much hype last year..........then he came out and did exceptionally well - especially for a rookie............and now at ALL OKC shows he is MIA. I don't think anyone anywhere roots against Robb.......there was just so much hype and then............MIA.

I don't know these people personally, but I can tell pretty much what they're up to. All the big names from our corner--short track, upright, open wheel:sprints, midgets, Siver Crown-- went on and off the radar screen at this point of thier career. They go and run a diverse group of tracks without being seen on the same track every weekend. Different surfaces, track layouts, zipcodes. Adding to the kids resume as well as his ability to bring the "goods" to the table when he is older. The WoO is not the main focus anymore as that does not hold a very good GOLDEN TICKET.

If he has the background ready, look for him to take on the big dogs for the win. Each level has a window of oppurtunity that gets smaller so the need to be ready is greater. There are many who want what he is after.

Most of the haters shall be his fans someday if he pulls it off. We haven't had any major leaguers since Jimmy Reece(who did it the same way as his own time allowed), and he will not forget SFS his home track. I would like to buy one of his shirts from last year just in case he proves me right.

A list of those (I may not list them all, so throw on in if I missed anyone) who really tried to get to the major leagues

Cecil Green- Zink Driver- He made it to Indy yet died trying to establish himself. Once ran Midgets all over the central US corridor.

Jimmy Reece-Ended up in one of the better rides the "Bowes Seal Fast Special" yet was killed in the late '50s. Once ran the great-great grandfather class of the injected sprints at OkC, in what was then full fendered coupes at Taft stadium.

Buddy Cagle- Tulsa legend who made it far enough to get his rookie test at Indy. Ran other AAA-USAC races as well.

Jackie Howerton-Made it far enough to win the Hoosier Hundred over Al Unser sr. and Mario Andretti(1974).

The big things with Trey are (A) he still isn't 16 years old and (B) pavement is where it's at if you're looking at NASCAR, which he is. Finding a pavement series that will let you run at his age ain't easy. The Carolina Focus series is out there, and I understand Trey has at least tested once or twice, but that series ain't much more competitive than what he's doing right now. He could beat his head in here, or running a bunch of ASCS races, but what will get him noticed in a couple of years is what he can do on blacktop, and the best training that's available is USCS. He runs a few different tracks, gets used to figuring out basic pavement setup problems, and believe me, you wouldn't want to try to make a living "just" beating Terry Gray. When he turns 16, the gates open on lots of opportunities, and that's when we'll all see where he's going.

By the way, Jimmy Reece actually won the '58 "500," driving for Zink. SFS isn't the only place that can screw up the scoring. Sadly, there ain't no asterisk next to Jimmy Bryan's name and it's his face on the Borg-Warner, but an OKC driver won the big one. They missed one of his laps during the yellow flag period after the first lap crash. Jimmy later passed Bryan on the track, but the scorers just put him back on the lead lap instead of ahead, where he belonged. Zink had a rookie keeping the time sheets in the pits, and he wasn't sure what all had happened. Zink was told much later by an IMS scoring official that a mistake had been made, but it was too late, and back then, lawyers weren't even considered. It was still a sport, remember?

I wonder if AJ Watson knew this? That was his last year with Zink. I need to go back and brush up on that race. If you want, add more, I'd like to hear it.

By the way, I agree with you on the Trey Robb thing. Maybe one day he'll win the Prelude To The Dream. I do not mean that as a joke, I just don't want to jinx this young man.

Tell you what....as soon as I get a minute, I'll post the whole Jimmy Reece/1958 deal on the "vintage" Tidbits board.  Interesting story, but it'll take some bandwidth.

A few more names to toss out as SFS or OKC folks who made it big include Rodger Ward, who started racing at Taft in a Jeep powered midget, Jud Larson, who M.A. Walker brought up from Austin very early in his career, and Al "Cotton" Farmer, who won the first race ever run at the "new" SFS, won a championship with Lavely, and went on to run all the USAC divisions for years until a bad one on, or actually OFF,  Pike's Peak ended his career.  Oh, and we could count Chickasha's Buzz Barton, too, although he actually started in California before the war and was well established when he came back to Taft.

Galen, you need to start posting on the "Tidbits from the Past" page or your grounded. Too interesting stuff to just post here where it will be lost amongst other posts.

Just something to add to the original post here........ I was told by a very reliable source that TBARA won't let him run with them because of his age. I personally think that if he wants to go anywhere soon in racing he should go into the Indiana area to race for the time being. That is where i think the opportunities are. JMO

12, have you ever been to a pavement sprintcar race? My guess is no. If i'm correct, please don't bash em anymore til you see it for yourself.

As far as napcar goes, well enough said. I mean it has become extremely boring nowadays.

c'mom man............this is Oklahoma.........of course I've never been to a pavement race.lol. Damn......I don't even know where the nearest DECENT show is.lol.

I wouldn;t mind seein one. don't really want to see USCS. TBARA SEEMS to have the best shows currently. But man thats a long way to go to see a pavement race. Unless there was one within a hundred miles, or maybe near somewhere I might be traveling sometime.......I may never see one. Where were the ones you saw Skeesiks?

besides........I'm not sayin it sucks in general ( like Nascar does). I'm sure there are a great many people who dig it. I myself am just way more partial to the mud slingers if you know what I mean. And the Indiana non-wing scene IS where its at. They got a ton of great talent racin there weekly.

So next year will Robb be old enough to run TBARA? If so, do they have any ambitions to?

Well if your sreious about it, then try to plan a trip down to Daytona during speedweeks. There are several TBARA events during that time besides the big 360 show over at Tampa. I'm not sure but I think that you could see a race almost every night during speedweeks if you got the money to do it and the energy to burn.

I have been to Florida and seen the TBARA. It is real fast and they are currently drawing about twenty-five cars per event.

As for The Robb plans, I don't know what they have on the agenda. I heard that they wanted to run with TBARA and Don said no. He's not of age as per the rules they have. I'll say this about that, they seem to enforce the rules in that sanction no matter who you are.

Thanks and take it easy.
