I'm thinking of making my 1st visit for the Ohio Speedweek.

Is there any tracks I should avoid? Is there a centrally located town that I should stay. I have not made my plane tickets yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would recommend staying on the western part of the state. Most of their races are ran over there. They run the whole state so it's hard to find a centrally located place. Below is the schedule and I've highlighted the ones that are central to western part of state.

6/20      Attica Raceway Park

6/21       Eldora Speedway

6/22      Waynesfield Raceway Park

6/23      Wayne County Speedway

6/24      Sharon Speedway

6/25      Atomic Speedway

6/26      Fremont Speedway

6/27      Limaland Motorsports Park

6/28      Fremont Speedway

Agree with Jac. If you cut the state map with lines north to south, and east to west with Columbus in the center, most of the races are in the upper left section, with the exception of Wayne County (upper right), Sharon (upper right on PA border), and Atomic (lower right). That said, I would fly in to Dayton and base yourself out of somewhere in the Troy, Piqua, Sidney area. If you make the Wayne County and Sharon swing, I'd stay in between those tracks that night.

Get ready for some good racing! I'm partial to Waynesfield and Attica myself, but they are all good.

Others may have better advice than I, and that's cool. Hope Stevie Smith comes back out and races with us this year! Have fun!

The 2 races I've seen at Wayne County have been bad, but the rest of the tracks are really good. Lima and Sidney have a bunch of hotels, I've also stayed in Findlay for a couple of nights.

Wayne County is the only "wild card" could be great, usually a dust bowl.

i would think about staying somewhere just west of Mansfield, puts you right on Rt30 for east west travel and only 5 miles from rt 71 which will get you to rt23 and Atomic, which should be a good show.

I went to Sharon two years ago. Before heading up that way call the track and ask them if they are actually gonna put water on it this year. It was dry slick in hot laps, took rubber, and the whole field had flats halfway through the feature.

Other than that, every race is awesome and the car counts are usually in the mid to high 30's with heavy hitters.

Wayne County has really improved over the past couple years. Very unique track worth checking out.

For the money you'll spend in rooms all week, another cost comparable option would be to rent a small motorhome and travel track to track.  There aren't as many that do that compared to probably 10-15 years ago but it's still a blast, plus you don't have drive anywhere after the races each night. Especially handy if you partake in any barley pop drinking during the races.

If you fly into Dayton there is a RV rental company located probalby no more than a half hour from there.  D&D RV in West Alexandria.

Definitely would skip Wayne county.  A few weeks ago it was so rough 5 or 6 cars finished in the lates and sprints. It's also one of the most expensive

Didn't the All Stars used to run at Portsmouth years ago??  I thought the track closed down (was always flooded, as it sits right on the Ohio River), and sat empty for a few years.  I googled the track today though, looked at their website/schedule, and it looks like they have a couple of big late model races this summer (Lucas Oil, $10k to win).  If the track has been resurrected, would be nice to see sprints run there again.  Just a thought...

I've only been to 4 of the Speedweek tracks but I'd definitely recommend them all. Fremont and Attica are small tracks that are intense every night. Wayne County is unique and provides good racing no matter what the track conditions are like. And Sharon gets an A+ for having a top-notch facility and it has potential to be a great race.

My only experience at Sharon was the tire fiasco that saw Matus win. I like everything else on that list (never been to Atomic). Those are some damn good tracks. Traded going to Ohio Speedweek this year to hit the BD Classic and Kings Royal. Enjoy

I've been to all of the tracks and I liked the racing at all of them. The Waynesfield to Wayne County is a drive and the Sharon, Atomic, and then Fremont is a lot of driving.

Atomic can (and usually does) put on an awesome show when the allstars are there. For those of you familiar with attica, atomic is just slightly bigger and it's banked higher than eldora. Sharon is my least favorite of the tracks on the list, but if they prepare the track properly it can be pretty good.

Atomic (a.k.a K-C) in the past, is awesome.  Waynesfield has put on an excellent show every year for speedweek!

Atomic is prob. the 2nd fastest and they will put on a rim-riding show.

If your doing the whole speedweek, I would fly into Columbus if your going to limit your # of motels..  This is just my opinion on how I would do the week..

Central located for Attica.  Approx 1hr---------

                               Eldora.   Approx 1:30             Town: Kenton

                                Waynesfield Approx 30min. ---/

Kenton will be approx 2 hr drive to Wayne county for Monday . Now a town called Upper Sandusky is 20 min to the east of Kenton that would shorten your drive to Attica & Wayne county but extend it from Eldora & Waynesfield..

Like a few people said above might think about looking for a motel for after Wayne County Monday night since its is Approx a 2 hour drive to the east to get to Sharon Speedway.. Now in my opinion I would find a place around Canton /Akron to stay Monday & Tuesday nights.  You could visit the Pro football HOF Tuesday morning before going to Sharon...

It it willbe a long drive to Atomic on Wednesday. It's approx a 3.5 hour drive from Canton to get to Atomic speedway.  I would look  lodging  around Columbus  or Chilicothie area  fior Wednesday night after Atomic speedway.

For Thursday-Fremont

Friday- Limaland.             Findlay.   It's an hour to each Fremont & Limaland

       Saturday-Fremont

Now another option for Fremont & Limaland is Kenton or Upper Sandusky   40-60 min to Limaland & 1-1.5 hour to Fremont. Kenton &Upper Sandusky gets you about 1.5 hr drive back to Columbus airport. It's about a 2 hour drive from Findlay to columbus airport.  So it really depends on how much driving you want to do.

I hope this helps. Now if you fly into Cleveland on Friday go to Attica then go & get checked in to lodging Friday night after race in Kenton or upper Sandusky.  & then stay around Fremont Saturday night so it's a shorter drive to Cleveland on Sunday..

In a nut shell, Ohio Speedweek is just straight up awesome. Theres usually 15 or more cars that could win any given night. Correct me if i am wrong, but i beleive Haud won Eldora, and Lima, and besides that there were different winners every night.

Chris Andrews (Attica), Haud (Eldora, Lima), Sweet (Waynesfield), S. Stewart (Wayne County), Blaney (Fremont), Rain (Sharon, Fremont).

I think the other race was hilltop. Not sure who won that night.
