(La Monte, MO) — L A Raceway has closed its doors on the 2014 season. According to a message on the track’s website and Facebook page, operations have been terminated effective today. Mike and Carolyn White have owned and operated the 3/8ths mile track since it was constructed and opened in 2003. For most of its existence, races were staged on Friday nights involving a variety of classes including Modifieds, Late Models, Stock Cars, and Sprint Cars.
For 2014, the old Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) founded by Archie Simpson was set to run a full season of races on Saturday nights along with 305 sprints. WOW car counts for the first three weeks were good, but outside of the April 12 opening night, crowds were not what was expected or apparently needed.
Competition for fans was further ramped up when Central Missouri Speedway re-opened on Saturday following a two-season hiatus.
According to the statement, the White’s have no plans to re-open in the future unless it’s under new management or ownership.
No word yet on what WOW’s plans are. RacinBoys will keep you posted on reaction from Archie Simpson and racers who committed to competing at L A on a regular basis.
L A RACEWAY STATEMENT
“Our 2014 season has been terminated effective, May 1. The fan support has not been what is required to sustain our race program and we have no reason to expect it to improve. The program this year was our last attempt to make something work. The track will not open next year unless its under new management or new ownership.”
