Was rummaging through the garage tonight and stumbled across an old 1/24 Monogram Brad Doty Sprint car model I forgot I had bought way back when still unassembled in the box. I forgot I had it until I saw it! I bought it along with a Sammy Swindell TMC Model which I put together but never did assemble the Doty Model. Just thought it was pretty cool that I found it....

I wonder if you can still even buy them. I know when I purchased the Sammy & Doty models it was over 20 years ago and if I remember right those were the only 2 options as far as Sprint cars.

I had the Casey Luna 10 (not sure of driver), the Stoops Steve Butler car (with wing), and Bobby Davis Jr. Consolidated Credit #6 car. I still see them around at shows & flea markets. Actually saw some for sale at a local hobby shop not long ago.

If you get on ebay and search for monogram sprintcar model or revel sprintcar model you will find several listings of each and every different kit they ever produced. It amazes me how many of them have stayed in boxes for over 25 years and are still available.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Steve had 4 that I know of (Coors, Valvoline, Quakerstate and Superman car), Sammy 3 (TMC, Old Milwaukee and Channel Lock), then the Doty, Davis Jr., Butler and Luna cars that were already mentioned. EBay is a good source for them as well.

KB toy stores here in Lima sold them for 2 bucks apiece on clearence back in the late 80's. Something else I wish I woulda held onto for awhile. But I put them together & hand painted some them. Broken & outdated some 20+ years later I threw them out about a year ago.

from what i remember as a child, the one i assembled was a Grant King?? such thing? i wasnt even sure what or who that was, it quickly became flimsy and difficult to keep front axles in, (much like the real thing) i even went thro the trouble to paint up and detail a old milk carton with full functioning rear ramp door, it was actually kinda sweet, the model eventually got parked inside just so i could hold onto most of the pieces, a couple shelf falls pretty much took care of the "newness" ..

Yes the grant King was one of them that you could do the sprint or supermodified.

i coulda swore , mine had the option for a wing-wings and a gambler style hood, and a driver ? boy, that was years ago.. I had to look it up on Ebay today, seems like i remember my delight ripping the plastic off it immediatly after walking out Kmarts doors and setteling into the rear seat of the parents car.
