Allard, Golobic & others look to continue Petaluma success when the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster resumes action on Saturday

By Gary Thomas

Aptos, CA – April 22, 2014…Continuing its inaugural season under the Prentice Motorsports Group banner, the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster will return to action this Saturday night April 26 at the Petaluma Speedway.

The night of racing will be part of a double header weekend for PMG, with the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo also competing on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville.

If a driver can win on Friday with the Ocean Sprints and then turn around to win on Saturday with the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster in Petaluma, they will walk away with the “Double Down Blackjack Bonus” presented by Tachi Palace worth $2121.

The bonus money is on top of the normal winners share each night, therefore if a driver sweeps the weekend they would earn $5621 for the two nights of racing. The idea behind the bonus is also to honor the Tarlton family and show as much support as possible during this time. We continue to send our thoughts & prayers to Melissa Tarlton and the whole family.

With the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster invading Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, one of the drivers to certainly point at would be Chico’s Jonathan Allard, who has experienced immense success in big events at the track over the years. In his career the veteran driver has claimed five King of the West 410 wins at Petaluma, along with a Civil War Series win early in his career. The three-time KWS champ this year is gunning for the Civil War Series title and a strong run on Saturday would go a long way in helping that bid.

Allard will also be aboard the car that won last year’s KWS 410 event at the track, with that being the famed Tri-C Manufacturing No. 3c owned by Clyde & Marion Lamar. “Petaluma has been a good track for me over the years,” said Allard. “It’s a racy place and always exciting when you get into lapped traffic, because you never know what to expect. Hopefully we can have a solid night and end up on the front stretch. It should be a good field of cars on Saturday.”

Fremont’s Shane Golobic is another that routinely runs well at the Petaluma Speedway and has wins at the track in a Winged Sprint Car, Non Winged Sprint Car and in a Midget. The talented driver has three Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster triumphs at Petaluma, to go along with a big USAC Western Midget victory in the 101-lap Soares Classic a couple years back. Last year Golobic also picked up the biggest win of his career, when he bested the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series in April at Antioch Speedway.

Golobic this season has an aggressive schedule planned that includes the PMG “California Triple Crown,” which encompasses the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster, the King of the West 410 Series and the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo. “We’re really excited for this year and look forward to going after all three titles,” Golobic said. “Definitely looking forward to this weekend and seeing if we can get this Keith Day Trucking 22 up front.”

After his opening night Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster victory, Placerville’s Andy Gregg will look to make it back-to-back on Saturday in the Mike’s Hard Lemonade No. 14r machine. Runner up on opening night Geoff Ensign of Sebastopol is always a threat at Petaluma Speedway and already has multiple wins at the track this year in the Lay Racing No. 24 mount. Reigning Civil War champion Sean Becker from Oroville has been one of the most successful series drivers at Petaluma, having captured five career Civil War wins there, along with two King of the West 410 triumphs. The “Shark” was also victorious in the most recent Civil War event held at the track last September.

Other top-10 drivers in the points expected for Round two of the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster on Saturday include seven-time series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn, Sacramento’s Herman Klein, Penngrove’s Alissa Geving, Colfax’ Colby Wiesz and Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt.

The front gate will open at 4:30pm this Saturday April 26, with racing expected to get underway at 6pm. Adult tickets cost $17, juniors 6 to 11 & seniors 65 & older will be $12, with kids five and under free. All seating is general admission during the night. The Petaluma Speedway is located in the southern part of the wine country at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds just off Highway 101 in Petaluma, California. Fans are recommended to bring a jacket and warm clothes if you have never been to the Petaluma Speedway, as temperatures do chill off once the sun goes down.

Founded in 1991 as the North-South Series, the Civil War Sprint Car Series was born in 1993 giving 360 Sprint Cars in California a sanctioning body. What started as just a handful of races at three different tracks has evolved into quite the series. In 2014, the Civil War Sprint Car Series will host 14 events at 8 different tracks around California.

A number of major showcases are on tap this year, which includes being a part of the Howard Kaeding Classic and the Johnny Key Classic for the first time ever this season at Ocean Speedway. Those events occur on Friday July 11 & Saturday August 23 respectively. The Civil War Sprints will also take part in the always lucrative Mark Forni Classic on August 9 at Placerville Speedway, along with the prestigious Wednesday night Gold Cup event at Silver Dollar Speedway on September 3.

One of the most anticipated events of the year will then happen on Saturday November 1 at the Stockton Dirt track, when for the first time ever the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster will join the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series for the 31st annual Tribute to Gary Patterson. The evening will mark championship night for both series’ and is expected to be can’t miss spectacle!
