BEWARE, the Knoxville area law enforcement people are a bunch of pricks who will do anything to get you pulled over to check for drinking.
2 times this past Month, including tonight, I have been pulled over for burned out licence plate lamp, in 2 different cars.
Tonight I told the State Trooper he was full of $h*t and challenged him to write me a go to court ticket.
The trooper said it was only a warning.
I then said NOW show me the light does not work at which time I got out of the car and went back and showed him a fully operational, legal light, and explained to him that I am a non drinker and to harrass a drunk.
This same thing happened with a Knoxville city cop a few weeks ago, so IF you drink, be prepared for a cop to lie enough to pull you over.
A word to the wise, get in a string of traffic leaving the races, don't be the lone car.
BEWARE, the Marion County law enforcement used fraud to pull over cars.

Kudos to the cops for at least doing something. Maybe tonight the traffic stop was all for naught, but the next one or two might actually catch a drunk driver or OWI. Odds are against them to get all the drunks off the road, but using the burned out light is kinda weak for a cop.
Better the cop pulls someone over than sleep in a park or some hide-away. Besides, If you are sober and have nothing to hide, what is the difference?
Being a non drinker myself, and I get pulled over for a light infraction, I would check it out and reasonably argue with the Fuzz. But would not be too bent out of shape if he was looking for a drunk.
Thanks for the heads up though, I pretty much know my car is tip-top, but a once over before I head there will be busted out.
You know what they say about people who hate cops...

marion county cops could make a hell of a lot of money by just pullin everyone over that leaves Dingus. Might not be such a bad thing with all the idiots that leave there wasted. sure you may inconvenience a few that have designated drivers (if that still exists).......but the majority of cars that leave that place are piloted by drunks.
better the cops do that then do nothing.

The problem is that the officer pulled him over for no reason and lied about why he did it. If they have a good reason (swerving, reckless driving ,etc) fine. To lie about it though is an abuse of power and that's not right.

They ticketed, I believe it was Dale Blaney's team for pushing the car to the carwash. They will never get it. I believe Cap gave them a call on behalf of the racers, but it fell on deaf ears. They have no idea what butters their bread!

If state trooper Wilson pulls you over beat his own ass with his own club. Been a prick and done this stuff every day of his life. I won't even get into the shit he has done. Hoseheads doesn't have enough Megabytes to store it.

we got a lot of pigs like that down in Oklahoma too. Bottom line is..........if so many feel they abuse their power (and we all do)..........people gotta do something. all of us collectively just waltz around like it either won't happen to any of us or there is nothing we can do about it. yeah you can vote those bastards out. elect a new sherrif or police chief......and 9 times out of 10 they bring in new slices of bacon. And if they are a problem........do it again. and again and so on until they get the point. we can all understand pullin over the drunks (and I imagine up here it ain't too hard to find em) but they need to let the race teams do their business.
or how about everyone up here get together and not break one law for about a week. I guarantee those cops will be pullin people over for false reasons and maybe even planting stuff on them. serve and protect my ass...........law enforcement is an enterprise. they NEED people to break the law so they can stay in business. JOB MANAGEMENT! believe me........i have a couple of friends that r cops in OK...........the last thing they want is people to stop breaking the law. we all know it is true............but c'mon ya'll is it really ok? if this is still a democracy we can always change it.

When I did my Internship for Warren County Iowa I meet the Detectives. The same year I was ID ing at Dingus and One of the Detectives was under cover and I said Hi to him and he said Hi back and just walked away from the gate cause he knew his cover was blown.

Knoxvilles police chief has a reminder for revelers at this years nationals. Dan Losada says there is an open bottle law on the books in Iowa which prohibits people from carrying open containers of alcohol on public property. The problem arises when visitors walk to the raceway with open bottles and cans of alcohol. He adds that police officers will be enforcing the law.

That is the hardest law to enforce at Dingus. You are not allowed to let anyone out with open containers. So you spend about half the night just being a "Catch Can Man". It's half the problem no matter what bar you work at.
Keep in mind though that once the 4 nights begin only about 1/4 of the County cops will be Marion County. Most of the others are from all across the state. Lucas, Warren, Polk, Mahaska, Monroe, Jasper

FYI, I do NOT hate cops, I on on the board that gave our local Police the huge kick off money for a new K-9, I am a HUGE supporter of the local and County Sheriff in my County.
My issue is when the law enforcement uses complete lies to pull over a person.
Like you, I have nothing to hide, but there is a difference between using good observation practices like 99% of Police use, and complete fraud like the Knoxville City Police amd the area Highway Patrol.
Be aware of the fradulant practices used and drive sober and be prepared for the harrasment dosed out by the total idiots who manufacture reasons to pull you over.

...more than 20,000 people killed a year at the hands of drunk drivers, if the drunks would not abuse the freedoms, the cops wouldn't have to use the tactics they do....
the drunks sure ruin a lot of good times for everyone...
drink free for 16 years...

It's not just the Knoxville city cops that are abusing their power....the State Patrol is out of control by using the letter of the law instead of common sense to fatten the state cofers.

It's always amazed me that you can have drunks throughout the grandstand that nobody does anything about, (even see people slipping in glass containers of booze) and nothing ever happens to them but, God forbid, you have seats on the top row and stand behind your seat for a couple of minutes and you get threatoned by some overweight Buford Pusser wannabe who doesn't have the common sense of Barney Fife.
I say they should enforce the "drunk in public' statutes and otherwise show some respect to those who bring in much needed money to the Marion County and Central Iowa economy. It just seems to be the other way around.
There needs to be a little less "attitude" by the law enforcement people and a whole lot more common sense...or the day may be coming when the money doesn't come here anymore.

Everybody remember that there is no open containers on the streets. It's usually not a big deal if you forget, the police in Knoxville have always let me pour it out and go on my way. Of course I'm always respectful to them and not falling down drunk. Everybody use some common sense and have fun!

Duane and to whom it may concern: I got a DWI last year in similar fashion. I was seen leaving a bar about 20 miles from home by a Missouri State trooper who was parked just a few hundred feet away. I saw him as he pulled in behind me and I just stayed as straight as smooth as I could holding a steady 60 mph on a 65 mph four lane road. He pulled me over after about 2 miles (prolly aggravated that I didn't mess up or anything while he was following me). Once stopped I asked why he pulled me over and he said that I was driving too close to the white line (aka the fog line) on the right side of the road. So truth speaking I was staying in between the lines but after I appealed my case, he typed up in the arrest report that I was driving directly on the line. After the field stuff (which can hard for sober people to do) he took me to the jail in Poplar Bluff where I blew a .10 and was locked up for 24 hours. After I just drank two crown and cokes and some water at that bar I knew I had enough and stopped however it wasn't enough to help.
Now I do not hate cops and I'm not mad that I got caught ( I was very calm and collected throughout the whole incident) it's how I got caught that burns me up. Our police force is out there to do a job but when they make up excuses just to try to give someone a ticket or arrest them and help make their "quota" then that is screwed up. I got arrested on Thanksgiving weekend last year and I wound up hiring a lawyer to take care of this matter and as of now I do not know what I'm being charged with. They are prolly waiting for me to get in trouble again for all I know. This is my first and last DUI and I know every little detail that led me to getting arrested that night and I'll know not to repeat those again. Unfortunately I have lost some respect for the law and I will not support any legislation to further lower the BAC level.
I honestly feel that there are some policeman that just live to run all over the general public and some feel that they can get away with it. Take a look at the situation of Robert Davis of New Orleans. This does not sound like another Rodney King incident.
This is a touchy subject for most people so I'm going to back off now.

You may want to think twice about walking back from Dingus as well. A friend of mine was telling me about a friend of his who got nailed for public intoxication a year or two ago while walking back to the north campground at the end of the night. You're screwed either way it sounds like.
