(Oxnard, CA., 3-24-14) Ventura Raceway continues the new season on Saturday March 29 at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility with a full program of VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks, Focus Midgets, Sport Compacts, Go Karts and our Junior Classes. We hope that fans will enjoy the efforts of the drivers and crews as they witness some the best in short track racing to be seen.

Last week saw Tom Hendricks take his first win of the new season on a very good track. This week he will go for another win against the best VRA drivers including opening night winner Kyle Smith, 2013 series champ Greg Taylor, Rick Hendrix, Guy Woodward, Brian Camarillo, Don Gansen, Cody Majors and many others. These drivers will thrill you as they approach 80 MPH on our 1/5 mile clay oval competing in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.

In VRA Senior Sprints, defending champion Clif Warren started the new season with a win but a new challenger has emerged as Steve Brown took the win in their 20 lap feature last week in a battle that saw Warren try to get by him for several laps with no success. These two excellent drivers will be going against other over 45 year old drivers in this very competitive class that features the same cars as the regular VRA Sprints with age being the only difference. Other drivers expected to compete are Wally Pankratz, Chris Meredith, Ed Schwarz, Mike Cook and others.

VRA Dwarf Cars are back this week for another night of racing in two classes, Pro and Seniors. These downsized sedans and trucks powered my motorcycle engines have provided exciting racing at Ventura for many years. Randy Gordon took wins in both classes on opening night. He will be back this week to go for two in a row in Pros. 2013 series champ Johnny Conley and his brother Tim, Thomas and Tommy Velasquez will lead the challengers in the Pro class trying to keep Gordon from taking another win. In Seniors, 2013 champ Mile Neal will be here to try to get back into his winning ways against Mike Lewis, George Calvo, Bob Kaufmann, Keith Vondersaar and others.

Ford Focus Midgets will opened their Ventura season last week with 2013 champ Brennan Rogers taking the win over Zac Bogner. These spec engined midget racers put on hard fought racing each night they race here. This is a class for up and coming drivers. Brennan Rogers will do battle with the rest of the Focus field of young drivers and veteran drivers.

2012 and 2013 Sport Compact Champion Zack Peterson has started the new season with a two feature wins. He will lead this class of four cylinder racers into action again this week. This entry level series is designed to get drivers racing on the clay oval with the goal of some of them moving up to higher level classes. Other drivers expected to compete include Mira Cook, Bruce Fink and others.

VRA Hobby Stocks are back Saturday night with opening night winner Curtis Dietzsch trying to take two wins in a row. He will battle all the top VRA Hobby Stock drivers, including Gary Curtis, Ernie Malone, Sam Garvin, David Heurung and others. This class, now in its second season, has provided some great close racing as it continues to grow is size.

Go Karts make their first appearance at Ventura Raceway tonight. All the drivers will be going all out to see who will become the 2014 Champion. This season the karts will race on an enlarged infield track.

Our three kids classes open their season this week. They will be racing in Junior Midgets, Mini Dwarf Pistons and Superchargers. These classes allow young up and coming drivers a place to develop their racing skills. 2013 Supercharger Champ J D Brown, Zack Chavez and Mike Long all took wins last week in their season openers.

Pit gates open at 12 Noon with front gates opening at 3:00PM. Racing gets under way with warm-up and preliminary events at 3:30 with racing getting under way at 5:30.
